I have been working at Campbell & Company full-time

    Pros

Campbell has been in the industry for over 40 years and is very stable. There has always been an emphasis on research and technology, so engineers are just as valued as those employees with financial backgrounds or roles

    Cons

There isn't much room for advancement at Campbell since it has a relatively flat organizational structure.
Some of the mistakes of the past are still being dealt with (both people and decisions) and this can be annoying day-to-day.

    Pros

Great chemistry with the entire staff and the money wasn't bad either

    Cons

The comp program changed and cut the commissions significanty. The Liebert product line became overly expensive. Campell was out of business a year later

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the incentives lucrative. Sales is hard enough as the competition is right there at your heals

    Pros

Participate in the exciting world of real-time systematic trading. Work with incredibly talented and experienced individuals across a range of disciplines. Well supported, powerful research division.

    Cons

Top-down management structure. Outside of Wall Street. Departmental structure is under-integrated. Lacking a formal product development process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to allow your staff to contribute to the intellectual growth of the firm. Make sure that compensation is sufficient to retain your top talent.

I have been working at Campbell & Company

    Pros

A place where there is a good balance between work and family life. The colleagues are mostly friendly and work well together.

    Cons

Being a hedge fund in Baltimore away from other financial hot spots, there are certain disadvantages (e.g., harder to network with peers in the similar field).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management should provide advancement opportunities to all levels of staff. It should also promote better communication across the firm.

I worked at Campbell & Company

    Pros

Great benefits, solid compensation. Good job providing the tools you need to do your work. Company culture is good and many good people working there.

    Cons

Some confusing issues regarding leadership/direction of firm. Some questionable promotions of individuals not based on merit/skill but on other factors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advise keeping closer tabs on what goes on within each department and not relying solely on "managers" for input. As a closely held company, more emphasis put on impressions made, especially to lower level staff.
