    Pros

    Strong mid and small cap coverage. Very good sales and trading operation that competes with any larger shop. Access to strong research and established client pipeline.

    Cons

    Canaccord Genuity has some very wonderful people who are respectful and smart. However, there is an entrenched attitude of easternly elitism in some of the larger, older offices.

    Advice to Management

    Communication and written protocal trump all else. Employees need access to honest job reviews and bonus related awards. Keep up the good work.

    Pros

    People that I worked with were great, friendly, sr. advisors were very supportive and would sit to offer help and support.

    Cons

    Command and control leadership, never knew what targets were, all bonuses were at manager's discretion (aka never getting one). Management was always looking at the "so what have you done for me recently?" Work life balance doe not exist for first 5 years until one is able to get established - fair but one just needs to know.

    Advice to Management

    Culture in the office is great for the inner circle of people at the top; but if continuity of the business is a thought, you will need to foster some of the younger talent

    Pros

    excellent management structure and positive leadership leading to good morale in the workforce. Good inter-departmental communication.

    Cons

    Unsure of the direction of where the company wants to move towards as regards growth

    Pros

    Decent salaries and benefits, good investments in infrastructure, great people to work with

    Cons

    Ineffective middle management, little or no training, significantly reduced bonuses despite greater workloads, poor morale, total focus on bottom line and shareholders, terrible HR department, little or no regard for employee satisfaction

    Advice to Management

    Productivity improves when morale is high. Recognize achievements, focus on retaining high performers, and improve bonuses for back office staff. They are the backbone of the company, without them the earners can't do their jobs.

    Pros

    Entrepreneurial work atmosphere, 1st year base salary for rookie advisors plus commission.
    Great location, and beautifulnew offices.

    Cons

    Significant management issue up til 2010, significant turnover since 2000.
    A major down sizing last year 50% of all offices closed, but Montreal office remained open. Work atmosphere was very clouded and negative always the fear that branch may close down.

    Advice to Management

    "Change" implies an ending of old ways of managing and the introduction of new more affective ways to motivating employee performance, increasing trust and redcucing employee attrition.

    Pros

    All hands on deck allows staff to become multi faceted.

    Cons

    No formal training. Revenue earners not rewarded.

    Pros

    Compensation, bonus, good location. When the family that founded the company still ran it, it was a fantastic place to work, great teams, respect, hard working.

    Cons

    Since a RTO was accomplished by former rival GMP and the Reynolds cabal it has been a slow and painful downward slide. Money is all that matters. People are completely expendable. Terrible corporate culture. Lack of honesty, decency, values.

    Advice to Management

    Learn some values. Start at the top.

    Pros

    Only Pro I could think of is being able to leave after the market ends.

    Cons

    Almost everything. No training at all. Basically they say hello welcome to canaccord, here's your seat. Thats it... No help from co-workers. IA think they are the next warren buffett, but actually they just want more commission.

    Advice to Management

    Hire IA's and employees for their skills and experience, not because they have connections to current / former employees.

    Pros

    High payout compared to most other firms, decent benefits over all, and the other advisors are really what made it bearable.

    Cons

    No feedback, and the firm makes rash decisions too often. There is no feedback, and certainly no assistance for new advisors... which makes it hard to grow. A lot of trial and error... at first.

    Advice to Management

    Train the managers, and make sure that communications are accurate and past employees aren't inadvertantly subverted in order to keep them from becoming competition later.
