So much potential ruined by so many issues

    Project Manager (Current Employee)

    Pros- good benefits
    - easy work
    - friendly colleagues
    - possibility to work remotely in some positions
    - good compensation if you are director level or above
    - some challenging projects

Cons-Executive team does not actually lead
    - terrible culture and environment, some of the worst management of change I have ever heard of
    - no ability to move up in the organization
    - extremely bureaucratic with no empowerment
    - no real meaningful vision or direction for the organization which means most employees are not invested in their work or their job

Advice to Senior ManagementIf the entire executive team changed and people were put in place who actually understand how to lead and engage the people in a small organization like this, it would make a huge difference. There are so many bright people in the organization that it is incredible that so there is so little opportunity to shine. With new leadership, the culture could change, the level of employee empowerment and engagement could improve, change could be managed properly, and a real vision and mission could be created WITH the employees. This is an organization that is unnecessarily old boys club corporate, when really, it should be more entrepreneurial in spirit.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Office Politics

Standards Subject Matter Expert (Current Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsThe coworkers are friendly and they all have a willingness to learn new things and very cooperative. I also enjoy the travelling involved. been to few continents mostly in the USA and its a good way to learn the culture and treat it as a free trip that I can take my family.

ConsThe management is a big problem, they are very political and is afraid of me overtaking their position. They take my credits but lays the blame on me for any wrongdoings. The working hours are terrible, usually I have to spend time on weekends to complete my job. There are no career advancements within the firm, you are basically stuck in any one position until the top guy retires. I am not afraid to voice my opinion and tell the truth for others awareness to improve work conditions and improve management

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the poor management.

Interesting, challenging job - no mobility

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsChanging projects, environment - great experience builder. High performing organization, no slackers. Good salaries and benefits. Opportunities to publish papers, present at conferences - very entrepreneurial.

ConsVery flat organization, few opportunities for moving up. Future dependent on ongoing funding from federal government.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider implementing summer flex schedules (work a little extra each day, get a day off every two weeks). Winters are long, people have been working hard.

    Good advantages - bad management

Business Analyst (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros- Good social benefits
    - Flexibility for remote working (depends on position)
    - Opportunity to travel across the country and abroad (depends on position)

Cons- Depending on one's position, very often, there is a lack of competency and lots of dependency on external consultants.
    - Very often, the employer finds himself in the midst of political conflicts and considerations that might affect work progress and stakeholder relationships.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork first - politics after.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
