Fellow employees, time-off, good benifits if they ever give you enough hours to earn it and that is it.

Pay, hours, incompetent management, use of negative reinforcement, rarely paid on time. Expected to do the work of three people.

Advice to Senior Management

May want to treat employees like humans instead of machines. Negative reinforcement only makes employees angry it does not work, pay your employees on time, stop playing games and give people some hours. Also, it would be beneficial to have some people in the bakery and stocking shelves instead of calling everyone in the a store to act as cashier when it is busy. Hire more cashiers!!

Pros

Good working environment, flexible hours, relative high salary. If you are a full time employee of Safeway, you will not be rejected of working in one place just because the manager doesn't like you personally. Safeway's salary as compared to other similar retail pharmacy chains including Shopper's Drug Mart, London Drugs, Wal-Mart, Superstore, etc. is higher. Also Safeway is located throughout America so people who worked in Canada may have a chance to transfer to American chains to benefit from lower income tax.

Cons

Not very great chances for promotion and difficult to get in in the first place. If you want to work overtime and get 1.5x payment, you would probably have to work in some remote areas where it is difficult to staff.

Advice to Senior Management

Replace the cash bonus benefit with the employee's shares of stock benefit.
