Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
Pros
In general, it is a good place to work in. Processes are mature including HR process, performance assessment process, talent planing process etc.
Cons
It's a company tend to be conservative in general, especially in technologies. If not learning by oneself, you may be a few years behind the current technologies.
Advice to Senior Management
Should do independent assessment from time to time if running the internal IT group is the best way to maintain the competitive advantage
Pros
You'll have 10% off if you work full itime.
Cons
It's very dirty. Some rough customer. You have to lift some heavy stuff . Theire is day when theire is no one.
Advice to Senior Management
You have to love canadian tire. You have to know what you do.
Pros
You were able to move around departments and when it came to stocking, you could take your time before having to head back to the floor
Cons
The management expects a lot from you and want you to wait hand and foot for then, which will never happen due to the low hourly wage that employees receive
Advice to Senior Management
Please do not expect the world from the average person as how much work a person does should be reflected by there wage
Pros
-multi-billion dollar national company
-store transfers acceptable across the country
-be a part of a massive retail environment
-fun, exciting and mentally stimulating jobs
-always meeting new people
Cons
-might feel restrained to your job
-customers can and will be frustrating
-stock inaccuracies
-miscommunications within stores
-sales can be chaotic
Pros
Culture is really good at Canadian Tire - people are encouraged to share their opinions, ideas, etc. People are really and the work environment is great. Many opportunities to learn and take on new projects. Head office is in a great location (Yonge & Eglinton) and the benefits offered on top of your salary are good. Training when you start a new role is good and many onsite courses are offered.
Cons
Salary is probably average or slightly below-average of the industry. But people don't come to Canadian Tire for the money - the work environment, learning opportunities, and management are above average compared to other large retailers. Opportunities for career advancement can be limited due to somewhat strict "timelines" imposed on employees (e.g. people are expected to stay in certain roles for at least two years before they can apply to another internal position). People are not really promoted here - you are expected to search in the internal job database for promotions and apply and interview.
Pros
Good people, easy to work with. Location is great if you live in Toronto, right on the subway line. A good place to just do your 9-5 and go home
Cons
I did not find that management supported people developing within the company. There were many people who had left to another company and was only then able to come back to Canadian Tire in a more advanced position.
Pros
Good place to work and a great environment
Infra structure is OK
Good benefits for employees
Opportunity to grow
Well recognized
Cons
Lots of paperwork
Opportunity to buy more shares
Better equipment to work
Opportunity to improve
Difficult to find information from management
Advice to Senior Management
Better understanding of what's going on at the company
Great package, but needs more options when selecting the stocks to buy
Pros
Excellent people to work with - Manager and Colleagues were very friendly and approachable.
Office located at a prime location - Yonge n Eglinton
Overall, satisfied working at CTC
Cons
My period of employment was very short, however at times I felt introducing new technologies especially in IT required a more than usual push as I found not everyone is willing to accept change.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the leadership is really good; the hierarchy is well defined and information flows in both directions. Good job!
Pros
good to start your career
Cons
compensation is less than industry tho they have a good benefit plan
Advice to Senior Management
in general the leadership at CTC is pretty good. they generally are approachable and friendly. it is a traditional compnay
