I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

close to home, good team spirit with most, profit sharing program is good, hours are good, don't have to pay for parking, generous with employee incentive program

    Cons

no benefits, pay raise is almost none existent, difficult to move in better position, hiring youth instead of knowledgeable staff, no feedback to good, bad, indifferent job skills

    Advice to Management

better feedback to all, share information, hold staff meetings more and not just management - who then keep information "close to vest"

I worked at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Moving ahead technologically to keep up with and lead in the industry

    Cons

Attitude has changed from "family" to just being a number. Too much favouritism for former colleagues from a large telecommunications company. Pushing out of the old guard from Cdn Tire.

    Advice to Management

Look at the quality of the work rather than who is delivering the work. If it is not one of your old cronies, it does not mean you should ignore to good results being delivered.

I worked at Canadian Tire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is an incentive bonus program in place. Discount in the auto shop is decent but on everything else its not worth it. Managers are friendly and helpful. Upper management is also very friendly considering their position at the top.

    Cons

Long shifts, always working weekends, low pay

I worked at Canadian Tire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free uniforms, employee discount, decent enough coworkers - it's a big box store so they hire a lot of people, odds are you're bound to like someone you work with

    Cons

Minimum wage, our store had a yearly wage increase but the owner made a point of delaying it as long as possible. All the stores are individually owned so if you have a problem with someone in upper management theres not a whole lot you can do. You also run the risk of working for crazy people

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees on the floor and fix broken things in a timely fashion. Doing your job becomes impossible when half the equipment doesn't work.

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Canadian Tire is a great company seeing incredible growth overall. The retail side of the business offers many opportunities for career advancement with great training programs.

    Cons

Retail business is a thin margin business so it can be challenging to keep some stores profitable. We also need to improve our online business to keep up with the competition of online giants like Amazon and Alibaba.
