I have been working at Candlewood Suites part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work is pretty easy, hotel is "extended stay" so many customers are there for a long time.

    Cons

If a room is in bad condition (smell, damages, etc.) they still try to sell it, and you are the one that has to get the complaining from the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a room out of service if there is a problem and actually invest some time into fixing it.

    Pros

Great hotel to work for if you're at an IHG managed property, or a franchise with a good management company. Candlewood is a great brand that's growing and has a great culture of employee engagement and high standards of quality and guest satisfaction.

    Cons

Work life balance isn't great for management, but it's generally better than busier, full service hotels. The pay is on par with other similar hotel brands.

    Pros

Great Benefits, Great Salary, Met some amazing people at this hotel, as well as others.

    Cons

Poor Leadership at the property level. Very disappointing, as this was what seemed to be a dream job, due to location and being a Corporate Managed Hotel

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on the Hotel Managers at the property level. There are definitely some great ones out there, but there are some that will give people a bad feeling/opinion of the company. IHG is a great hotel company, but lacking in some areas.

    Pros

Generally pays above minimum wage, and work is VERY slow on some days. This would be beneficial to students needing to complete homework or online classes.

    Cons

If you're wanting to get on board with a company that you can grow with, Candlewood Suites is not a good place to start. Very little room for upward mobility unless you have a really good relationship with GM/franchise owner. VERY complex billing procedures, and borderline predatory no-show and cancellation policies. It's either very slow, or incredibly busy.

    Pros

Management really cares about its employees. They train you very well. Good benefits. Competitive pay. Long term guests are great.

    Cons

Doing the laundry! Shoveling snow in winter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not show favoritism. Its completely obvious to all your employees who you prefer. Keep it professional!

    Pros

It was a nice place to work, since most of the properties are newer it was clean and in good shape. Mostly long term stays, so you really get to know your guests. Good benefit of being able to stay at other IOC properties at reduced rates.

    Cons

the only con for me was having to do laundry and shovel snow in the winter, but that was because I was weekend manager and we didn't have regular laundry or maintenance people on the weekends.
