    Pros

Good work culture. Laid-back and easy to talk to managers and other employees. The work hours were reasonable. Good overall experience working here.

    Cons

Not too much responsibilities. Can be more challenging. The work I did was a lot of back-end stuff and manual data-entry, etc. Would be better if there was more opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Push your interns to do more than what they do. They can accomplish quite a lot when given the opportunity to show their skills.

  3. Good company when there is work, unpredictable job security creates anxiety

    Pros

The working environment is good, there are decent health benefits and the pay is fair. They will try to wait out slow periods with mandatory time off before resorting to lay-offs. They will hire good people back if work picks up.

    Cons

The work volume is unpredictable which makes things unstable, things are extremely lean which is good for cost control but leads to heavy workloads. Fears of the next lay-offs lingering in the background.

    Pros

The salary and benefits are competitive

    Cons

Tons of paperwork and the projects are usually pretty dull. The work environment is nothing to rave about. The facility is strictly an office filled with cubicles and conference rooms, there's nothing in terms of entertainment for employees. Half the cafeteria was recently converted into a conference room. There are no extracurricular activities for team bonding.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the work culture and keeping your employees happy and motivated.

Because there is the union, the working environment is not good for young people. lot of old guys.

    Pros

Technical People are wonderful to work with. They are very knowledgeable.
Management and marketing have not seemed to do their job since they lose the ability to get a new work. While other company can get more project, the marketing people of this company said "the market is tough". The market always tougher for the company who has lost their ability to sell.

    Cons

Flexible time and good group of technical people to work with

    Advice to Management

It will be nice if the management in this company will be more of the leader not just managers.

    Pros

good benefits, vacation, health, no shifts

    Cons

    No challenging work
No chance to advance and job postngs are usally filled before posted (they know who they want)
Two unions and skill and ability lies within the union you belong to. A machiniest is a SPEA member and can sign for designs but a PSAC mamber who is trained as a CET in PSAC never can.,
Over managed and with too many dead wood managers.
Aecl was bad for keeping usless manages by Candu even after letting them go brings them back.
Retube Group is the worst group to work for.
Design prints a kept to old school layout because many can not understand current GD&T or refuse to change.

    Advice to Management

Break up Candu in small company and flatten management, get rid of any one that was a manager from AECL, Get rid of all or down to one union. Get HR to do their job

    Pros

    - Friendly people.
    - Friendly section heads and project managers.
    - Occasionally interesting jobs

    Cons

    - Rarely interesting work.
    - Too much paperwork (typical with the nuclear industry).
    - Poor tool and machine design development efficiency and/or results due to: (1) The under-utilization of good designers and CAD for somewhat complex mechanisms. (2) Lack of recognition and utilization of people's expertise. Political standing and educational status is more important than performance and experience. (3) Involving too many people in design review meetings, especially those with poor design experience. Some people's suggestions trump others who are better at mechanical design.
    - Inefficient processes in general.
    - Inefficient and poorly supported software systems.
    - Inefficient purchasing process.
