    Pros

Candu is a company where interesting projects happen. Depending on what type of work you do, you can end up working on pretty interesting and challenging problems.

    Cons

The main problem with the company is the decline in the amount of work that it can secure. The outlook for nuclear new build is not great in Canada and even in the foreign markets that Candu is targeting. The company has been downsizing since it took over the company from the Federal Government in 2011 and the rate of downsizing and layoffs has increased since early 2014.

    Advice to Management

The hierarchy of management in this company is what hinders it from securing jobs. There are so many managers that in a lot of cases you will have to deal with two or three managers.

    Pros

The knowledge is there and you can learn if you want to not that the processes in place help you learn

    Cons

It has a very political & demoralizing work environment. Functional managers are very political and not necessarily helpful. There is not much space to grow if you are ambitious. Company is not good at attracting projects from utilities and cannot compete well and project managers are not willing to change.

    Advice to Management

Stop appointing political functional managers without local Canadian university education who kill the ambition of the company young generation's ambitions for the sake of their own benefits.

I worked at Candu Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The working environment is good, there are decent health benefits and the pay is fair. They will try to wait out slow periods with mandatory time off before resorting to lay-offs. They will hire good people back if work picks up.

    Cons

The work volume is unpredictable which makes things unstable, things are extremely lean which is good for cost control but leads to heavy workloads. Fears of the next lay-offs lingering in the background.

    Pros

The salary and benefits are competitive

    Cons

Tons of paperwork and the projects are usually pretty dull. The work environment is nothing to rave about. The facility is strictly an office filled with cubicles and conference rooms, there's nothing in terms of entertainment for employees. Half the cafeteria was recently converted into a conference room. There are no extracurricular activities for team bonding.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the work culture and keeping your employees happy and motivated.
