    Good company, but...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Uxbridge, England (UK)

ProsStrong business with diverse product offering. Good people to work with.

ConsMore forward thinking needed. The coompany has not moved with the times and modern trends over the last decade, and is now paying the price (consumer space).

Needs to re-think long-term strategy and probably will become a B2B and move away from B2C to a large degree.

Advice to Senior ManagementAct now to safeguard company's future.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    OCÈ has taken over.

Solution Consultant (Former Employee) Uxbridge, England (UK)

ProsAt the moment the only pro is the fact that nobody bothers what you really do. You can then go to work and pretend to do something, take home the salary and live with it. The company is full of people like this.

ConsIf you care about your career and you don't want to get stuck here then stay away.

After the integration with OCÈ the company has no direction. Too many projects and no real focus on anything. Complete chaos

    The HR is rubbish too.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead to hire expensive external people why you don't look inside first???

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ICT management that border on incompetent.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Brussels (Belgium)

Pros- Well recognized company name that look good on a CV
    - ICT department is a good place to learn the ins and outs of the job if you are new to IT.

Cons- Depressingly basic for seasoned IT workers.
    - Low level of knowledge among many of the people holding trainings on their topic of "expertise" with just one or two exceptions.
    - Poor departmental management with two team leads that are incapable of managing and supporting a team of ~30 agents between them.
    - Taking pride in having an internal helpdesk when in reality only the simplest incidents such as password resets are handled in-house and close to 40% of incidents are handled via outsourcing to India.
    - Over reliance on virtualization, web based and cloud solutions at the cost of security and productivity and intent to implement more third party solutions in the near future.
    - Chaotic IT infra structure with for example over ten different RDP terminals for active directory where one would suffice had the infra structure been better planned.
    - Chances of growth/promotion within the department are nearly non-existent.
    - IT staff only receive basic mobile phones belonging in 2003 while the rest of the company receive latest generation iPhone, Samsung and Nokia smart-phones.
    - Data plan on company phone is very limited and extremely expensive if exceeded.
    - Long term plans indicate that the internal helpdesk in 1-2 years will almost exclusively be doing catch and dispatch.

reasonable satisfactory experience - working for a japanese company is much different than working for US comps.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosgood stable environment and company structure

ConsJapanese influence sometimes difficult - decisions are not taken, but made

    great

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStable and reliable and ok to work for if one does nto have pressing ambitions. It has a good set of managers and people willing to assist if you are proactive. Very international though more dutch people are getting hired nowadays.

ConsToo slow too react to changes and the salary is poor. Camera market is in trouble so the company is being puched to evolve to the new landscape. Lets see how this goes.

Ancient Company Very Behind the Times

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Amstelveen (Netherlands)

ProsGreat for an easy life - no urgency great place to have meetings about meetings nothing gets agreed or changed

Conscontinued fighting between Canon Europe & Oce who they took over. Have spent a fortune on integrating the two companies but they are still two companies. All senior Canon Management have left with all Oce management taking their places who do not have a clue about the business

HR are there but there are no lights on

Advice to Senior ManagementSell Oce & go back to what Canon is good at - Canon will never be a solutions company they will never be able to compete with the likes of HP or IBM

Amazing experience but slow decision making and poor HR management

Key Account Manager (Current Employee) London, England (UK)

Prosdiversity of people, variety of tasks within the role, European travel

Consold fashioned, limited opportunities to move up the hierarchy, bad HR management, style slow decision making

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't just talk and do nothing, because there's competition out there!

    Temple of nothingness

    Responsible (Former Employee) Lausanne (Switzerland)

    Pros1- Some nice people.
2- The name "Canon" looks good on a CV even though it's an illusion.
    3. I can't say good products because some are good, some are bad.

Cons1- A lot of useless employees with big titles who are simply not doing what they are paid for (you then have to do their jobs while they get rewards).
2- Incompetent management all over (in almost any European country)
3- No support, no consideration, no respect for employees. You're just a number
4- The worst H.R department and HR people I've ever seen in my life. H.R management behave like prison wardens. Belong to these unaccountable overpaid, incompetent useless corporate parasites that a lot of companies have.
    5- low pay
6- No future, don't event think about it.
7- Backward, slow paced, total lack of pro and reactivity, amateurism

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice to C-Level executives for Europe: It's time to clean up. Please start by a total reshaping of the H.R department (90% of them out to let professionals in), then change 70% of your managers in Europe. Then change the horrible backward slow paced mentality of this company.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
