I worked at Canon Europe (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to move around in the company to develop your experiences and career
    Collaborative, friendly work environment

    Cons

Pay and recognition seems below average, I believe because they know lots of people would like to work for them

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognise good performance and nurture people who are passionate about your products. I saw many people who were hugely passionate about Canon products become disillusioned by a few number crunchers in management who only thought short term and didn't care about the products or the longer term success of the company

  2.

    Terrible waste of resources

I worked at Canon Europe full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Opportunity to meet people with true dedication for the brand
    - if you make it to the director level you are basically sorted for life - the company will take care of you
    - quick job rotation is still possible but could change as European HQ is slimming fast
    - working in true European environment

    Cons

    - company cannot seem to grasp the technology changes of 21st century , in every aspect from product development to ICT structure
    - absolutely NO talent management unless you made it to director level (see Pro's), so lot of good people ending up leaving out of frustration
    - company culture is allergic to risk taking, thus a lot of blaming and "ass-covering" going around
    - decision process is an outer joke
    - not enough emphasis on hiring process - so difficult to bring in the people that will break this heavy mould

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to CEO : Focus on hiring the right talents that will make the company take the digital shift. Don't rely too much on your current organisation and senior management to make it happen though.

I have been working at Canon Europe full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    None.

Easy access to M25 to get away from office.

    Cons

I came to Canon with almost a decade of IT marketing experience, many awards and superb references from every company I've worked at. For some reason though, Canon saw fit to hire a local church events manager for a European marketing role. This person: 1. has no real marketing experience and 2. has no IT industry experience.

Don't waste your time on this company in Europe. The interview process is rigged for totally unqualified friends of management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a real and fair HR process or end up like Kodak very soon.

I worked at Canon Europe full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Clean building
    Good toilet facilities
    Reasonable canteen food
    (I'm really struggling here!)

    Cons

Too many managers with over inflated views of themselves
    Very dull people
    Very dull atmosphere
Most work is done for vanity or brand protection - no real value driven from Canon Europe to drive leads/sales within the National Sales Organisations across Europe
Your face fits or it doesn't - mine did but I couldn't bear the process or politics any longer
If you want to be agile and make positive progression, this is not the place for you. If you are a lazy middle manager that is happy to progress from time served, rather than good work and personality, then Canon Europe is the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Well done for hanging on in for your huge pension. Please retire and let some young blood breathe life back into a dated brand.

I worked at Canon Europe full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Big name, decent benefits, average salary

    Cons

No life balance. Working hours from 7:30 to 22:30 on average. Senior management poor both in terms of business and of soft skills. The culture there is not about work a lot but more about pretend to work a lot by doing no sense hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review internal mechanism to check integrity of workers

I have been working at Canon Europe full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong business with diverse product offering. Good people to work with.

    Cons

More forward thinking needed. The coompany has not moved with the times and modern trends over the last decade, and is now paying the price (consumer space).

Needs to re-think long-term strategy and probably will become a B2B and move away from B2C to a large degree.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Act now to safeguard company's future.

I worked at Canon Europe full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

At the moment the only pro is the fact that nobody bothers what you really do. You can then go to work and pretend to do something, take home the salary and live with it. The company is full of people like this.

    Cons

If you care about your career and you don't want to get stuck here then stay away.

After the integration with OCÈ the company has no direction. Too many projects and no real focus on anything. Complete chaos

    The HR is rubbish too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead to hire expensive external people why you don't look inside first???

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Brussels (Belgium)

I worked at Canon Europe full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Well recognized company name that look good on a CV
    - ICT department is a good place to learn the ins and outs of the job if you are new to IT.

    Cons

    - Depressingly basic for seasoned IT workers.
    - Low level of knowledge among many of the people holding trainings on their topic of "expertise" with just one or two exceptions.
    - Poor departmental management with two team leads that are incapable of managing and supporting a team of ~30 agents between them.
    - Taking pride in having an internal helpdesk when in reality only the simplest incidents such as password resets are handled in-house and close to 40% of incidents are handled via outsourcing to India.
    - Over reliance on virtualization, web based and cloud solutions at the cost of security and productivity and intent to implement more third party solutions in the near future.
    - Chaotic IT infra structure with for example over ten different RDP terminals for active directory where one would suffice had the infra structure been better planned.
    - Chances of growth/promotion within the department are nearly non-existent.
    - IT staff only receive basic mobile phones belonging in 2003 while the rest of the company receive latest generation iPhone, Samsung and Nokia smart-phones.
    - Data plan on company phone is very limited and extremely expensive if exceeded.
    - Long term plans indicate that the internal helpdesk in 1-2 years will almost exclusively be doing catch and dispatch.
