    Pros

Certain departments are run very well.
    Good benefits, insurance, 401k
    locality to transit system
    decent pay

    Cons

    raises slim
    bonuses non existent anymore
    401k bonus a joke
upper level execs clueless to what really needs to be done as far as growth and change

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some execs need to spend more time on site, more round table or town hall meetings needed.

    Pros

CSA as a sub of Canon USA has direct access to the resources and intellectual capital of the parent organization. The firm has the strong brand presence and resells the top of the line products but...

    Cons

The company is poorly managed. Strategies do not always align with the best interest of the customers and decisions heavily favor the sales departments. As an operational employee, there was very little incentive to excel in my daily tasks; very much a culture of keep your head down, do your job and go home. I saw to many talented people leave the company only to be replaced by people that where content with just getting in line and doing the functions of their title. Definitely not a good place for entrepreneurial, empowered, or collaborative thinkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people are your best asset, not the bottom line. You comp plan is under the industry average, you products cost more then your competition, and your approach is fragmented. You need to focus on the brand, build a better CSA by leveraging the strength of the parent. Empower your staff and break away from the highly functional top down model you are employing to generate fresh ideas and innovation among your talent. It's the only way you are going to keep/attract new young workers that you desperately need to help transform your business model from a commodity sales firm into a true solution provider.

    Pros

Stable pay. Benefits are pretty good. No weekend depending on the client site where you work.

    Cons

Raises aren't very good. Upper management actively looks for reasons not to pay you your worth.

    Pros

    Outstanding product line.
Techs are the best in the business (and I'm not a tech).

    Cons

If there's a worse IT department in the world I have yet to discover it. From email to cell phones you people are way out of your depth.
Management only promotes other management. No career path at all unless in management.
Work load depends on area but you will probably be doing the work of two to three people with no overtime pay or any other recognition of your dedication.
Management is uninspiring and doesn't care about employees, just numbers. You don't fool us with your happytalk. We laugh at you. We really do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit micromanaging, you're not really that great at your own job that you should take on ours as well. Stop the blame game and move on. Realize that most of you have no actual knowledge of the production side of printing. Go learn. Good management does not mean that you have more spread sheet entries than the guy in the next office.
Yes, you saved Oce. Why do you want to keep making the same mistakes that got Oce in trouble?

    Pros

The instructors for job training are very knowledgeable.

    Cons

Poor compensation. The benefits are very limited. The management team is not experienced with the equipment that you work with in the field. The company micro-manages you at all times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn more people skills. Talk to the higher ups about better compensation.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers are the only reason each day is tolerable. Great benefits, steady paycheck, and secure employment if you play the game.

    Cons

Sad, depressing atmosphere where everyone is beaten down. You will not be promoted based on skills, performance, or dedication. Keep you head down, stay quiet, and shake the right hands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build up your teams rather than break them down. Show appreciation. Take the time to really learn the roles and responsibilities of the team you are managing - how can you manage a department you don't understand?

I have been working at Canon Solutions America full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong name recognition. Excellent benefits, products and culture. Plenty of room for professional growth.

    Cons

Besides the obvious challenge of competing against other local "Dealers," who provide the exact same products, none. Need to improve specific value proposition, to be able to differentiate within the local market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in your people with mandatory customized (vertical specific) training programs.

    Pros

Health care. 401 k, vacation time off

    Cons

Everything. From upper management down to the tiny minuscule service manager. First the pay is just terrible. My teenager son was making more money than me. Second, they treat everyone like you are inferior to them and you'll always over hear them in their little cubicles cracking jokes about technicians, and any chance they get they belittle you. Third, Most managers got their jobs back in the 80's so they don't have bachelor's degrees and almost all the technicians have degrees so that creates an intimidating situation for the manager hence making them more hostile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a life. Practice what you preach. Always remember that life didn't start at your company and will end there

I worked at Canon Solutions America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can do very well as long as you put in the work. The brand typically speaks for itself, but it does come at a higher cost, which is why it can be more of a value sell.

    Cons

The experience can be very different from one person to the next, especially considering the territory a person is assigned. Normally people are not exactly thrilled to speak with you regarding their office equipment, so you have to understand that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training could be better relating to the actual on the job functions rather than in a classroom setting
