I have been working at Canon USA

    Pros

money is ok for long island. Benefits are great. They put a big emphasis on loyalty. Do not expect to be promoted with a big salary increase for at least 5 years.

    Cons

It's a very corporate work environment. If you can't handle that, then this place isn't for you. I had a hard time with it.

    Pros

I respect the philosophy and it is a wonderful company.

    Cons

The local Long Island it's all about me attitude undermines what is trying to be accomplished and move the company forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A look into your new work force's mindset vs. the corporate attitude would help filter out those just looking out for themselves.

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, amazing facility at the newly developed Canon, USA HQ in Melville. Great and friendly management that do as much as they can to make sure you succeed.

    Cons

There is not a lot of room for advancement into management. It is possible to transfer around to other departments but to get into a management role, you have to work here for at least 5 years.

    Pros

You can get training for whatever you want that is related to your job. Even A+, Net+, Security+ if you want it.

    Cons

Reviews by managers are by formula - do a perfect job but promotions are very unlikely

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The only good reason to work here i would say is to have a job and benefits if you do not have any

    Cons

the challenge working here is that managers rather threaten your employment all the time rather than promote a team setting the supervisors are just happy to be sitting behind a desk they will come out and help for like 15mins then act like they are the reason we made budget

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

promote team work and treat everyone with the respect you want in return getting cursed out has to get old at some point.

    Pros

Should only consider working at Canon if you live on Long Island -- but don't expect any work-hour or other flexibility that would inspire you to go the extra mile

    Cons

The leadership is clearly out of synch, the employee base lives in obsessive fear of making mistakes, backstabbing is encouraged, and a fake harmony prevails while management turns a blind eye. this is why i left the company and took another job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more humanity, care for your staff, bring in and support fresh blood and new ideas . . . lol, not going to happen

Worst managed company I have ever experienced. Not a good place if you're a woman or American.

    Pros

Work hours are stringent and respected so no one is sending you messages after 5 or when you are on vacation

    Cons

The list of cons are long…
Canon is a Japanese company that still thinks it's in old world Japan. Change of any kind is rejected and frowned upon. Even if it would benefit the company. New ideas are not welcomed. They like to say they are innovative but do nothing to encourage that. There is a stifling sense of fear in their culture. They have an obsession with time. God forbid you come in at 9:01 after hitting traffic. you seriously can get written up for that. Even if you are a manager. The culture strongly favors Japanese males and are put in positions of power with little experience, language or cultural comprehension. With that come sexist and biases comments and attitudes. If you are a woman you can forget about being recognized and promoted. In general you have to be there for a decade or more before they even acknowledge your effort. There is no accountability for actions and leaders are left to their own devices. There is a frightening inability to make even simple decisions. In some cases you even need permission to have lunch with another person (no joke). No one cares to do better and there is little motivation to do so. Canon takes on the attitude that you should be happy and thankful to have a job with them as opposed to doing right for their ppl. There are better companies on LI to consider and commit to. Bottom line…run don't walk away from canon. It's a deceiving place. Just don't bother.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A complete overhaul of management is necessary. Including the ceo. Hire experienced ppl who can bring new life into the company. And not just japanese. We are not in Japan.
