I worked at Canongate Golf part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Definitely get the chance to prove yourself. Benefit of working and getting golf comp. was a great perk for me personally. Also liked the fact that once you were at work your boss pretty much let you be and let you do your job.

    Cons

Work hard for what you get. Pay isn't great and you work your tail off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. I understand why they do what they do.

Work with great people. Great team environment. Free Golf for employees which is great. Can sometimes work with your schedule. Members are very nice.

    Cons

Pay is low. Management doesn't give out any money to improve course. Somedays ask to work longer than usual. Sometimes on schedule and calls you off and doesnt tell you.

I have been working at Canongate Golf full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is profitable - that does not necessarily mean a better experience for members or better pay for employees.

    Cons

Employees are considered assets, not people.
    Pay is terrible.
The majority of the decision-makers are just not that smart.
    Benefits are nonexistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step out of your bubble and see what is really happening at your clubs.

    Pros

Positive encouragement. Lots of freedom at times. A good portion of the members are cool, especially if you act positive and professional.

    Cons

Pay is pretty horrible, especially for management. Very limited recources to get the job done. Management is all golf people and know very little of what it takes to properly run a Food & Beverage Department. Very limited support at times to lower management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking that golf guys know anything about how to run a Food & Beverage Department. Listen to your Food and Beverage Managers, you might learn a thing or two.

I have been working at Canongate Golf

    Pros

    Nice People
    Golf Environment / Free Golf
    Networking Possibilities
Able to work independently with little outside interference

    Cons

    Terrible Pay / Benefits
Hiring process consist of asking people from all over the US to come and spend a day with a salesmen, they then talk as a group about his / her looks and usually move on the next one to see if they have a good "fit"...
Misleading regarding pay and benefits , did not hold up their side of the offer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about the money and worry about your "Members"
Fire employees that are not educated and step away from the "good ol' boy" system.

I have been working at Canongate Golf

    Pros

Possible career growth but you must be within the "inner circle". Country club environment allows for daily interaction with members, guests and employees.

    Cons

Managemtent is out of touch with their employees. Decisions are made at the corporate level by leadership that only appears at the facility once every 3 months or so. The decisions are made hastily and are fueled by personal emotion. Employees are help accountable for unrealistic budgetary expectations and policies that do not work.

If you are looking for job stability, this is not the company for you. Turnover is rampant and the golf business is struggling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should spend more time at their facilities. Upper management is out of touch with what is wrong in their operations.

    I worked at Canongate Golf

    Pros

The only thing that I can think of is the fact that you get free golf.

    Cons

My hard work did not pay off at all. No matter what I did, it was not recognized. I went through three different managers while I worked there. Every time this happened I was stuck with the worst shifts because they would bring in their friends to work, who ultimately got promoted over me. For religious reasons I do not work Sundays, yet I was always scheduled for Sundays. I never got as many hours as I needed. When I brought up the Sunday issue with the manager, he said that I was expected to come in no matter what, because that is what I was scheduled for. After 3 summers of work there, they did not rehire me, and I am sure that the Sunday issue was the reason.

I worked with a lady who had been there for years and years and ran the place whenever we had management change. New management came in and hired his best friend in her position, then promoted her to assistant manager within a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get control of the lower management.
