I have been working at Capgemini (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - There is NO Pros in this company. Except it gives you a brand name of consulting.
    - However a lot of US clients dont know the name. So.....
    - Compensation is pathetic and doesent keep up with the market.

    Cons

    - Top Management is extremely inept and uncapable
    - Extremely political and that starts right at the top of the food chain.
    - Company runs without a vision (First TELCO and split and now HTEC) What is this ???
    - Mediocrity is rampart
    - Buzzwords rather than results oriented
    - Favoritism is the only way to get promoted or higher rating
    - I was surprised to see that during the round tables, the top performers were automatically pushed down for the lower rating, while the laggards having solid network were pushed to the top.
    - Top Talent doesent stay with the company for long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - 99% of the VP's are completely redundant, incapable and free loaders on work done by the junior level staff. Most of them should be let go. Those who are not let go should be given monthly targets and held accountable. There is ZERO vision ANY of the VP provides.
    - 80% of the Principals should be let go and replaced. Whoever are left should be whacked to get sales.
    - Respect the employees. If it weren't for them, YOU wouldn't have a job !!!

I worked at Capgemini full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Salary was fair and Individuals wanted to do what was right. You need to make sure that this is the right fit for you.

    Cons

Cap (at least the Capgemini America, there are a dozen different operating companies and each one is different) is trying to apply the big consulting model on what should be light weight POCs and implementations. The management does not want to listen to options. And, despite their mantra of life work balance I was continually working 60 hour weeks. In my group there was 50% turnover in the 2 years I was there this included the VP and several other group leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to new ways to implement your SaaS offerings. You hire people with experience in the field but do not listen to the ways that they have been sucessfull.

    Pros

Working for a Big 5 consulting Company

    Cons

No Career Growth; Operates like a Mom & Pop shop. They dont develop their resources and have the policy of fire and hire, hence dont retain resources at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your attrition rate and take care of your people. Realize people is Strength in Consulting Organization

I worked at Capgemini full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Decent salary with decent benefits; great for entry-level job out of college
    - Depending on account you land, ability to work from home
    - Lots of happy hours
    - Alt travel (though I hear they are cracking down on this)

    Cons

    - Little to no work/life balance
    - An IT firm filled with people who have no aspiration of learning about technology (some managers don't know anything about technology at all)
    - No IT training available
    - Management misinterprets 'hard work' and 'long hours of work'
    - Poor raises
    - Goals you set with your assigned career/people manager are not used as a metric for end-of-year rating
    - Turning more into a managed services firm under current leadership

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People join Capgemini with the promise of working with IT in IT-focused companies; not work on managed services projects. Short-term profits? Great. Long-term profits? Dissatisfaction and a huge exodus. Find the projects that matter that keeps employees happy.

I worked at Capgemini full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

great for lazy people who just want a "job" and nothing else, not even work.

    Cons

    - Big boys culture with former EY people
    - Sub-quality people
    - An IT Company that do not care for technology training at all
    - Cross-division functions are all messed up. Capgemini staffed management consultants on tech project
    - You have no freedom on what you want to do - top down culture
    - Bad compensation
    - Seem to focus way more on networking than skills
    - Losing out in the North American business arena - projects are dearth due to subquality delivery, high fees, and subquality people
    - They cleverly coined the term rightshore but offshore people are total crap and lack motivation to work - wrongshore rather.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves and hire better people.

I worked at Capgemini full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Talented, hard working people. There are a broad range of skills that can be leveraged for the clients. The global reach allows for strategic level solutions

    Cons

Quarter-by-quarter mentality; tactical vs strategic thinking. Often senior leadership is understandably concerned about making the numbers, but it doesn't have to be done at the complete sacrifice of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Conduct a 3 year strategic plan and communicate it through all levels of the organization.
