Entrepreneurial culture with Freedom but overly restrictive internal tools and processes

Senior Manager (Current Employee) Jersey City, NJ

ProsEntrepreneurial culture with freedom to achieve what you want. Great People despite the fact that the French Management has limited interaction or knowledge of the US market, resources and trends

ConsOverly complicated French driven processes designed by people who sit in an office and never get out to client sites where the work really happens
Antiquated tools and technologies (Laptops, Conference Bridges, web based tools etc)

Advice to Senior ManagementBesides comp and work life balance the only thing your people need are good tools to do their job
Please modernize the software, systems, bridges and computers they use on a daily basis. Its not enough to talk about CLOUD, Information Management and other emerging technologies without embracing them. Move to new technologies and cut reliance on ineffective IT support personnel. This will make your people happy and you will save $$$.

Good place to begin your career

    Consultant (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

Pros- Decent salary with decent benefits; great for entry-level job out of college
    - Depending on account you land, ability to work from home
    - Lots of happy hours
    - Alt travel (though I hear they are cracking down on this)

Cons- Little to no work/life balance
    - An IT firm filled with people who have no aspiration of learning about technology (some managers don't know anything about technology at all)
    - No IT training available
    - Management misinterprets 'hard work' and 'long hours of work'
    - Poor raises
    - Goals you set with your assigned career/people manager are not used as a metric for end-of-year rating
    - Turning more into a managed services firm under current leadership

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople join Capgemini with the promise of working with IT in IT-focused companies; not work on managed services projects. Short-term profits? Great. Long-term profits? Dissatisfaction and a huge exodus. Find the projects that matter that keeps employees happy.

    Wannabe player

Manager (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsConsulting will expose you to a lot of challenges that you may otherwise not find in the tech industry. You will learn new skills - but I think there are better ways to do that outside the company.

ConsI hate to say this but in effect this is a body shop. I worked out of the LA area and was involved in lead roles at several projects. Staffing the projects involved throwing many people from offshore into the project and having a very low manpower onshore. The people onsite were overworked, had no work life balance and any possibility of networking and exploring your options seemed out of reach because you are always dealing with major issues at work. The frustrating part of it was that upper management like the service delivery leaders etc were only available when they had work to be done. Any other requests for meetings etc were given the run around or simply ignored. The prevailing thinking seems to be - be a professional and take care of things. But this is an excuse to not listen to employees who want to make a difference.

Advice to Senior ManagementLong term employees in upper management level need to take a hard look at other companies where employees are happy instead of following their own narrow minded approach.

Good guys , average skill set

    Manager (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

Proslike any consulting company this review is specific to the practise (SAP in my case) you are part of.
General work life balance is good, people get promoted although sometimes based on seniority, some exceptionally good guys are always there and if you can get hands on people from other countries like European ones, you can get exposed to some great work.

    ConsCross country integration is poor
Training is average, people are not top tier
