So much potential but senior leadership is out for themselves

Sales (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Capgemini

Prospeople are great except for the leadership. They pay well. It can be alot of fun.

ConsThe biggest underachieving company in the industry. Sr management is out to make as much money for themselves as they can even if it means cutting people that have given years of their lives working here, and foregoing vacations.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart looking at the people aspects and less at your W-2

average compensation, limited growth, puzzling decisions

Lead Consultant (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Capgemini

Prosfriendly place, can take lead and grow, work real hard and get growth, get to travel a lot if in consulting. sometimes frustrating.

Conslimited visibility across other teams / projects, haphazard decision making, short sighted views and decisions of mgmt, lots of travel or client locations since its consulting.

Advice to Senior Managementshould listen to employees, should have a hr team who cares for employees, should offer more time off and trainings.

Learning Opportunity

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Capgemini

ProsCapgemini provide great learning opportunities across variety of areas. It operates across a wide range of consulting topics starting on the strategic consulting of the continuum to the tactical system implementation and operational outsourcing aspects

ConsHeavy technology impact. Does not have clear go to market offerings and hence does not have a strategic insight into the type of competencies they want to develop and hence many time operate as an ad-hoc body shopping

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on identifying key competencies and a development plan. The competencies should not be limited to soft skills but based on the offerings.

Good career experience

Manager (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Capgemini

Pros* Consulting in general provides good exposure to diverse corporate environments, industries, and working styles
* Most V.P.'s and Senior Managers were strong and were liked
* Opportunities to move groups and industries (if you so choose)
* Opportunities to move to other metropolitan areas (if you so choose)
* Some opportunity for international travel (if you so choose)
* Good place to go if you don't need a lot of "care and feeding" with regards to career management or counseling (can be con as well)
* Respectable vacation and benefits policies. Four weeks of vacation out of the gate.

Cons* Way too much travel. Not enough attention to getting people staffed locally
* Pace can be intense at times depending on client, Sr. management on the project, and whoever sold the project
* Consulting in general has it's down sides and CG is no exception. Companies tend to hire out the work that they either can't or don't want to do. Thus sometimes you get put on bad projects.
* Sometimes no choice in assignments. if you are on the beach and available, almost always you are going. Because of this, self -career management can be challenging.
* During market downturns, Consultants are the first to go when corporations are making cuts. Thus I weathered many rounds of layoffs
* Bonuses were weak compared to other companies
* As with any firm/company a few challenging V.P.'s / Sr. Managers.
* Some loss of the "Big 4" cache due to sale of E&Y Consulting division to French based Capgemini

Advice to Senior Management* Increased attention to performance bonuses
* Increased attention to allow staff to get placed locally
* Evaluate overtime or stipends to compensate for excessive hours

Capgemini is a great place to foster career growth and get experience in multiple industries.

Manager (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Capgemini

ProsGreat team atmosphere, amazing experience to lead and learn.

ConsPoor visibility into senior management decisions made at a group level (Paris) , it's a French company and the US operations always seems to take second place.
You'll never know you're working for a tech company, especially when they deliver your corporate laptop that won't boot and your cell phone that isn't allowed to connect to the mobile internet or corporate email.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnable your employees , don't spend so much time telling your employees what they can't do and provide them with the tools and technology they need to do their job.

Unless you are a pet of someone

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Capgemini

ProsExposure. Types of projects. Meet people and opportunity to pitch to clients.

ConsHave to a be pet of a 'somebody' to see even see a good opporunity your way.
Never get the due or credit even when your performance in 110%.
Lot of favoritism. Some managers do not even consider you if you are not from a certain geographical part of the country.
Family is never a priority. If you are asked to go to alaska you would have to, if not you are fired. No respect and taken for granted a lot.
You would have to be 'somebody's' female dog to get ahead.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow certain respect and not favour guys from your area. Sometimes that means a senior guy would end up reporting a junior guy. Dont put people in a position so that they are certain to fail. We are in a 'people' business so you better have the right people. Scrutinize more and dont puch blame.
