I have been working at Capita full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great team members and most of team leaders

    Cons

Long hours, treated like dirt, upper management don't have time for you. No bonuses. Can't progress or move to a different department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting your best staff leave. Improve bonuses and better shifts

    Pros

    Cons

employees are limited to knowledge on the sector they work in, not much communication about other divisions that could help expand skills and experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spend more time to understand the business units

I have been working at Capita as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The office environment is quite relaxed where we work in teams. There is pressure to hit targets but it is not a stressful environment. The work is contract based so there is not much security but in the short time I have been there I have had 2 pay rises and expect another in a few months (dependent on hitting/exceeding targets). Company offers paid holidays and some other benefits.

    Cons

The work is only temporary/contract work so there is not much scope to progress a career there unless the client extends the contract.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the processes that we must follow to achieve our targets are not ideal. There needs to be more hands on management where they can get a feel as to what it is like to do the job before they make the strategies in order to achieve the goals and targets set.

I have been working at Capita full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Money available for people prepared to demonstrate that they are indispensable. Big and complex projects provide room to grow as a technical professional as there will always be problems to solve if you put your mind to it. Don't expect any recognition for this however.

    Cons

Teams are divided by an impenetrable wall of managers. All the business' clerical functions such as payroll are disorganised, pitifully slow and poorly communicated. Roles and responsibilities are poorly-defined and warnings about lack of direction are ignored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out how things are supposed to work, or fix them when they don't, and convey this to employees. Recognise technical ability as well as social climbing. Take some care to figure out what an employee is supposed to be doing and who is meant to support them before parachuting them into a role.

I have been working at Capita

    Pros

Once you get your foot in the door it's good to move around as they are big on internal recruitment

Nice working environment for people in there 20s

    Cons

    Not much free parking

    No clear path for progression

More moving sideways into different departments than moving up into senior roles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a really good relationship with your staff in order to increase morale and make it a nice working environment

I worked at Capita full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people who came along from previous acquisitions are the only 'pro' really. There's not much else to praise about such a shambolic place. I was warned about Capita and its poor reputation, and found that to be wholly deserved.

    Cons

The group's policy is to do whatever it can to save money. If this means dumping on loyal, well-qualified staff then they have absolutely no issue in this. Corners are cut everywhere which of course results in poor delivery to clients - but then again Capita is a huge machine so it doesn't really give a toss.

Within the Employee Benefits area after the merger, too many experienced people were replaced with junior i.e. cheaper hires. Yet at the same time, a few very highly paid 'yes men' were brought in and are riding the gravy train to this day, even though their targets remain unmet. It seems that if you can get onto the 'leadership team' and do enough sucking up / playing the game (however you want to phrase it), you'll be fine.

Meanwhile those below the upper levels are given next to no consideration. Only those who have no shame in brown nosing - irrespective of expertise - seem to get by.

If your company is ever acquired by Capita, start making plans to get out. Because any previous successes you have had, and any sense of camaraderie, no matter how good you are etc, any feel good factor you have at work will be out of the window within a few months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognise the value of experienced staff, and don't be so spineless. If you don't agree with 'division' or whoever else is in a higher position giving orders, have the balls to be professional. Don't just take the moaning and then come down on your team like a ton of bricks for no reason.
