Pros
Good benefits and good training. Good people and nice offices. Good communication between coworkers. Implementing a new program for on the grow and growth development. Good wellness benefits.
Cons
No growth opportunities. Don't care about educational background, will take anyone. Takes advantage of associates at times and does not reward hard workers when they should.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote from within and prepare for the future with strategic initiatives. Look for high performers and reward them. Know who can be the future of the company and who will just be there to do the day to day grunt work.
Pros
Many opportunities to learn new skills. Learned about mutual funds, retirement planning, legals and documentations.
They also have wonderful benefits that are pretty flexible with time off. They have a top notch training program and wonderful and comfortable working environment. Your life is not based on call metrics-I spent 30 minutes on the phone once chatting with an older lady. Very relaxed in that way ;)
Cons
Micromanagement, Micromanagement, micromanagement!!! When interviewing didn't think it was going to be a call center but it was. I was not pleased with that. The TM's really don't do much-they are hired from outside when Sr SAR should be up for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Please start advancing more from within! For the most part keep up the good work. Please work a little more on being a meritocracy and not so much butt kissing.
Pros
Although this company is currently going through layoffs (only the second time in Capital Group history), they are by far a great company to work for. How many other companies have a retirement plan for you, and put in 15% of what you make annually. How many companies pay for your college? How many "Call Centers" dont care if you took 70 calls or 20, as long as in the end, your customer was provided with the best customer service, and walked away with no questions left unanswered. Capital Group is a wonderful place to work.
Cons
Feedback is a little over the top. Don't get me wrong, I think its a great things, and we can catch a lot of errors, however, it seems to be the negative feedback that you hear about the most. Its very rare that your TM says "Hey, I listened to a few of your calls today, great job" Or "I checked a few of the items you worked on today, no errors, great job" Most of the time, you only hear the negative. But, as I have learned. If you dont hear anything, you must be doing a great job!
Advice to Senior Management
Stay in the know. You have plenty of disgruntled employees right now. Find out who they are and play nice. We know that you dont have all the answers, some people just dont understand that, or believe that. Remember to praise your associates and pass that down to the TMs as well. That can make a huge difference in the outcome of that associates work, and their attitude.
Pros
Work stays at work and they offer a great balance of work and personal life. Excellent training program designed to help you succeed at the job.
Cons
Lack of knowledgeable management. Career advancement is very slow and at random. Ass kissers are well loved within the company. Ex Starbucks employees are promoted faster than college graduates.
Advice to Senior Management
Reevaluate what a College degree brings to your company. Recognize your rising stars and take care of them and let the old mules go.
Pros
Associates are treated fairly. Capital provides great benefits, a generous retirement program, and competitive salaries. (Not the highest necessarily but competitive.) Most Senior leaders have been in the industry or with the company for some time.Collaborative environment. Middle managers are typically less experienced which is really just a reflection on the reasonalble growth opportunities
Cons
Sometimes difficult to understand and navigate within the organization. Understanding communications channels is a must. Fairly steep curve learning the culture but it's one that's built on respect and collaboration. Despite recent reductions, which no company is immune to, there are good career opportunities. Most folks stay for a long time.
Advice to Senior Management
Move quickly to address organizational questions, concerns.
Pros
Capital Group provides excellent benefits. The work environment is very positive and the facilities themselves are great.
Cons
Management is not the brightest. Some of the decisions that are made certainly leave you scratching your head. There is an unnecessarily high level of secrecy around a lot of communicatons. The pay compared to other similar jobs in the industry is not up to par.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to make decisions quicker and more effectively. Don't act like every little thing is a government secret. Stop focusing so much on "fairness" and base some part of pay and advancement on performance.
Pros
Until recently, stability - the company is going through some layoffs (its first) due to the horrible market conditions and the outflow of assets under management. Other reasons include a comfortable working environment - casual dress, reasonable hours, nice office environment. If you're going to be a cube dweller, I can't imagine there are a whole lot of better places to be. The benefit package (especially retirement) is extremely generous.
Cons
Heavy on the 'culture' - ok, it's a great place to work...but don't tell me that one company of < 10k people is the only place on the planet where people make a difference and are respected and have a chance to contribute.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to maintain open communication with reports. Ditch the heavy handed review process and don't make the process of providing feedback an exercise in micromanagement - management needs to differentiate the size and scope of errors and put some proportionality in the feedback - people get the same experience if they screw up to the tune of $50.00 or $50k.
Pros
The Capital Group Companies offers it's associates outstanding benefits, above and beyond other companies out there. When you ask folks about the greatest part about working for CG, they will most likely respond that the benefits are superb. One of my favorite benefits is the $400 per year I get towards health reimbursements. This can be used towards anything fitness related from gym membership fees, to running shoes....even buying a Wii fit!! CG is also a very friendly place to work....I've made lifelong friends during my time here.
Cons
Large companies can sometimes lead to longer timelines in decision making.
Advice to Senior Management
Seek more input, suggestions and ideas from associates.
