Good place to work, not as much pressure as other collection places

Collection Associate (Former Employee) Tampa, FL

ProsTreats people fairly when collecting. Lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Big organization that allows for movement within. Opportunities to get involved in projects and other things while doing your daily collections job.

ConsTied to the phone, and the clock. Have to login by the shift start time.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a career path for people in collections that is not just limited to a collections supervisor. Find ways to find people's skills and talents and pull people from phones to move them to more appropriate areas. The Collections group is a great talent pipeline that needs to be managed effectively.

Account Manager (Former Employee) Plano, TX

ProsWe have the authority to work with the customer and keep the customer in their vehicle by trying to resolve their account.

ConsCustomer's hide their vehicle and it can be a negative mark against you if the account is not resolved at the end of the month.

If you can eat, sleep and breath Capital One Auto Finance, you may be successful.

Unit Manager (Current Employee) Plano, TX

ProsThe medical benefits are pretty good if you are someone that does not have a lot of medical problems. The yearly incentive for managers can be several thousand dollars. Most front line managers are starting to get laptops. You also get 401k matching, tuition reimbursement, discounted stock, and a decent amount of vacation time.

ConsManagers rarely get praise and recognition for their work. Promotions usually go to those who fit a particular mold or who are good friends with upper management. You have to live at work to get a decent yearly bonus. They are all about numbers and less about customer service and doing the right thing. They will skip on making on process right if they can tweak it for cheap.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet's invest in making processes that are as fail-proof as possible. This will ultimately cost us less money down the line. Managers need more praise and recognition opportunities.

Breakdown of CapitalOne Auto Finance Work Environment

    Manager (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsBenefits package: 401K, increasing vacation/time scale are good.

ConsVery bad management and sub par senior management. Chaotic environment described as 'dynamic' by those in charge. Bad interdepartmental communications. Problems [potential lawsuit material] abound for long periods of time before anything is done about them. History of problems, about which management and senior management were warned prior, leading to class action lawsuits costing several millions of dollars. Very 'political' environment: it's all about who you know and what you do for them.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou're transparent. There is nothing original about how you handle business. Get back to the roots which made CapitalOne successful. We aren't your secretaries.

Good place to work, but has been inconsistent recently

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Plano, TX

ProsCapital One Auto Finance has good people and excellent pay. Individuals in general have good intent with not a lot of the politicking. Work Life balance is reasonable. New building is excellent.

ConsLack of promotion opportunities. Inconsistent quality of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe primary focus should be on end-result metrics. Secondary importance is on the input or activity based milestones, which theoretically help predict if the result based measures will be reached. The activity based measures should by highly question to ensure they truly are predictors.
