Pros
benefits are good and on par with marketplace
physical workplace environment is very good
salary compensation if coming from outside is comparable or above market
however, once you are inside the compensation process is extremely slow and does not keep pace
coworkers are among some of the best people
Cons
performance management process leaves much to be desired
little chance for promotion unless have management support
favors youthful go getters willing to work long hours (60-100 plus hrs per week)
can "try" next level role without pay or title change 6-18 months and still not get promotion if management does not agree or they eliminate role/department
work life balance doesn't truly exist below management level
open culture only works if you agree; woe to those who question you'll find yourself moved out
Advice to Senior Management
work to improve advancement from within by allowing education time opportunities
get real on recognizing true talent within rather than "buying" what you perceive to be talent outside
Pros
friendly people and good bank to be with
Cons
system challenges and hr policies that are not efficient or developed
Advice to Senior Management
Understand policy and procedure before implementing it
Pros
Great Coworkers - supportive and Patient enough for a good work atmosphere.
Nice campus and provisions for people to get isolated from the stressful life.
Cons
Challenges gets shortened with the hierarchy getting involved at multiple stages.
Leadership does micro organizing - thus questioning the ability before delivery.
Advice to Senior Management
Trust the people who are supportive and Loyal, Ensure fair reasoning is part of communication before decision making.
Provide opportunity for folks who truly deserve rather than favorism to ensure transparency.
Pros
good benefits, good pay for the market.
good people if you fin d the right team
Cons
can't advance without brow-nosing (really this is 2012 this shouldn't happen)
notice how all the people that give good reviews work in the corporate world of CapitalOne which is all roses compare to branches.
need to know the right people to advance very big turn off
Advice to Senior Management
look at the overall picture when promoting a person, don't write someone up just because they didn't meet one thing from your stupid quotas. and they are stupid sorry.
Pros
Great company, loved my co-workers and managers, pay was decent.
Cons
Never know when they will reorganize a department.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't changes so often.
Pros
great place to work and learn. great people to work with.
Cons
too many meetings at times and you'll need to be focused to get things done
Advice to Senior Management
semi annual promotion cycles
Pros
Every building on campus has a Mother's Room for women who need to pump breast milk. This is awesome. They are also very flexible about work hours and working from home. This is great for working mothers. If a kid is sick and can't go to school, you can work from home.
Cons
The company is so huge that you can sometimes feel overlooked or neglected. When I started working there, nobody knew who my manager was supposed to be. I felt like I had to figure everything out on my own.
Pros
Analytical, open, challenging and democratic
Cons
Too analytical, slow decision making
Advice to Senior Management
Make quick decisions
Pros
good benefits, PTO,24/7 operations, speed of hire
Cons
Will hire you knowing that the (shift, position, etc) is changing, some managers have people issues (in other words they will deceive you to avoid handling an issue, HR is slow to resolve issues
Advice to Senior Management
have your managers complete a mentoring program, be up front when hiring, speed up the hr process, have some empathy
Pros
Good decision making by C level executives to save the company twice in the last 10 years through MOU and the great recession.
Cons
Emphasis on cost saving resulted in large numbers of inexperienced hires. No career advancement without brown nosing. Highly political environment -good old boys club - no good for minority/foreigners.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay for experience and results and reduce extremely high turn over rate above analyst and below VP.
