Pros
descent pay and benefits for entry level
Cons
no room for growth, company is too budget conscious, too many customer demands and complaints
Advice to Senior Management
better pay for entry level employees, and more opportunities to grow
Pros
Benefits- Health insurance, dental insurance, visual insurance, tuition reimbursement
Bonuses- can vary a lot but still a plus
Locations- clean safe environments
Salary- high paying job for minimum qualifications
401k- Company will match contributions
Cons
Bad schedules- schedules don't change, always make you work a weekend day
Departments change quick- you may be doing once job for years and you can be moved to s different one with little notice and no choice
Not a lot of room for advancement- you are either an associate, supervisor, or manager
Sit all day- very sedentary job, and unfit unhealthy culture
Pros
Very smart people, Good locations to live (Richmond/McLean), Strong balance sheet (very little mortgage exposure from the crisis)
Cons
Employees work long hours for below average compensation especially for specialized finance/technical roles (one or the other probably needs to go). Senior/Mid-level management have very little traditional banking experience (and a tendency to try to reinvent the wheel)
Advice to Senior Management
Fix the compensation issue if you want to be able to retain or attract high caliber, experienced capital markets/banking talent. Recognize that sometimes you need experienced hires rather than trying to plug in 'smart' rising stars into businesses they have no experience with
Pros
Fast paced, highly intelligent peers, challenging
Cons
Has become much more big company and politics play a much larger role in promotions
Advice to Senior Management
Mgmt. needs to focus less on themselves and their own careers and operate more like the company that Capital One once was....more of a team environment.
Pros
Capital One has a distinct culture, which focuses on truth seeking behavior and strong analytics. They are not a company that is focused on prestige of position, leading by tenure, etc.
Cons
Capital One has a distinct culture that may not be suitable for everyone. If you cannot adapt or do not like their way of doing things, they are unlikely to adapt to your ways.
Pros
good office, good training, good food
Cons
working too hard, the pay is less
Advice to Senior Management
raise the pay for every one who work here
Pros
They take care of their employees. Management makes an effort to have a personal relationship with employees rather than handing down dictates from their throne. They are flexible for a big corporation, and will support hard-working employees with time and understanding as needed. It seems like they actually care, offering money towards continuing education, and constantly helping local charities.
Cons
It's a corporation. So don't be surprised to find four "VPs" in one office. Banking is like the restaurant business; you have to be prepared to smile for customers even if your girlfriend just left you during your lunch break.
Advice to Senior Management
Note that I was only an intern here. I didn't see everything, but I saw a lot, and learned a lot. Banking can be a ton more rewarding than any normal sales job that so many are settling for these days, and I suggest you reach out to more smart young people to prove it.
Pros
Rewards commensuarte with effort expended, very fair place to work. Tremendous learning opportunities and training support, great support and networking.
Cons
Sometimes the wheels turn slowly, patience and persistence necessary to succeed.
Advice to Senior Management
headed in an excellent direction.
Pros
Flexible work environment
Nice colleagues
Data Intensive
Cons
Managers try not to be concerned with your career interests. One will have to push a lot to get things done. Promotions can be unfair and totally unjustified.
Advice to Senior Management
Give better training to managers on people management once they are promoted. By just being good in numbers and analysis, one cant be sure of performing well in people management roles.
Pros
Work experience is decent for resume.
Cons
Promotions are based on seniority not competence.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire better leaders.
