ProsI enjoyed the job. The people and management was friendly.

ConsSome people are in management positions, who would hold you back in your career.

Advice to Senior ManagementNever let managers, who are intimated by other employees, direct their future. Step in and make sure qualified employees are always placed with the company.

    Love working here

Senior Business Manager (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsLots of great things about the company, some of the things I like most are:
    - Extremely smart and competent people to work with and learn from
    - Complete empowerment to associates at all levels
    - Very young, highly energetic, and collaborative culture
    - Culture encourages debating different points points of view
    - Very open top management with a lot of respect for people at all levels
    - Very balance work/life balance for their level of compensation

ConsNo place is perfect and Capital One is no exception:
    - Main focus is on developing and rewarding analytical skills and less on leadership development
    - Growth opportunities are started to become limited
    - Hard to differentiate yourself amongst such a great group of smart people leading

Advice to Senior ManagementMaintain our unique identity in Financial Services and not become a typical bank.

    Teller (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsCapital One Bank is a great place to work if you are looking to move into other roles in the company. They focus on training and providing opportunities to help their associates grow and learn new areas of the company.

ConsPart-time employees need to work 6 months before being elligible for benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the policy concerning applying for new positions for employees having been employeed less than a year.

Learn a lot and work your a** off for less reward

Senior Manager (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsReally smart people who will demand your best - you won't know what you're capable of until you work at a place like Capital One. The guiding strategy for carefully managing growth and projecting into down markets has been right-on in really rocky times like now.

ConsLack of transparency in strategic decision making; "analysis paralysis" that causes over-socialization of plans and delays implementation; hyper-competitiveness that causes inhibition in sharing ideas that might seem less than brilliant; opaque promotion process that doesn't give employees clear targets to shoot for.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open about major decisions; trust lower-level employees to make mistakes and take risks; loosen up the rigid culture!

The rare bank on the rise

Teller II (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsThough recently trimmed back, it still offers a relatively competitive benefits package, including healthcare, dental, child-care reimbursement, and even adoption assistance. It is also one of the few financial corporations that is staying strong in the current climate, providing job security and plenty of room for gowth within the company. THus, I would highly recommend getting in on the stock plan, which is available to even part-time associates, along with many of the other benefits.
Company values actually feel genuine and are followed, breeding a loyalty among employees, which is important for stability. Generally there is a strong team work feel at the branch and even district level, which helps morale. And starbucks coffee...

ConsThere is sometimes a problem with information trickeling down from the top and frustrating lack of uniformity regarding operations. Lack of full-time opportunities in the banking sector contributes to a brain drain as the most talented seek to make a living elsewhere. There is the usual struggle between sales and operations as the company tries to grow, sometimes creating conflict as number-driven sales people try to push through things that are in violation of policy and even law. There is also the professional conflict that arises when the sales side is unofficialy regarded as being above the operations side. In some markets the perfect balance has not been achieved.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back in touch with the base of the company pyramid, if you will. It is the corps of workers more than senior management, who provide the base of the company. Don't say "we're going to do a study with managers to find out why there is a high level of teller attrition", just conduct exit interviews!

Capital One - I enjoy getting up and coming into work each day!

Systems Administrator (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsI am very satisfied with the benefits of the company - matching 401K, discounted stock purchase, and more vacation and personal days than I have ever been able to take in one year!
Management also encourages working remotely, another perk.
I am also very satisfied with the salary AND bonus structure.
The other associates are very helpful, friendly and great to work with.
Capital One has plenty of growth opportunities within the organization. It's up to you where you want to take your career! Although I have held the same position for several years now, I feel confident that I could find another position within the company.

ConsThere really aren't any downsides to working at Capital One.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't micro manage!
