Advice to Senior Management
Make quick decisions
Pros
Location
Industry Reputation
Interdepartmental Cooperation
Capital One University
Cons
Elitist Attitude
Red Tape
Poor Morale
Associates not held accountable
Advice to Senior Management
Care about your employees and believe in the notion that they are your future. Why do you think Manager's take off for lesser opportunities like their hair is on fire?
Pros
Good location, beautiful campus, decent pay.
Cons
Too many hoops to jump through to get anything done.
Thinking outside of the box is allowed ONLY if you follow their rules (basically, you have no room to think outside of the box).
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the redundant PM docs and start listening to your employees more. QA/Goverance group is too rigid; try not to crack the whip unnecessarily at every meeting.
Pros
The benefits and pay are unbeatable. I never had a problem getting time off when I needed it. A fun and professional work environment.
Cons
Just like any job, having to deal with different people and their personalities. Not every one gets along perfect, you know.
Pros
Growing Company
Great Rewards and Recognition
Smart people
Cons
Culture is somewhat a "cult"-
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open to respect talents outside of banking
Pros
Capital One encourages work life balance. You work with highly intelligent people. Very entrepreneurial...all decisions are based on data. Not afraid to try new things...if it fails, you learn from your mistake and move on
Cons
I have been in a similar role for a long time...we are starting to grow now so should be promotion opps again after the economic slow down
Pros
Decent place to work with good salary and benefits like $1000 match on FSA, 7.5% 401K match, Stock purchase program etc.
Great benefits in case of layoffs.
Good work/life balance.
Convenient location and conveniences like gym and nurse practitioner on site.
Cons
They try to hire really good people based on aptitude, but not enough focus on technical skills.
A very competitive culture that fosters distrust and people always doing this for visibility and getting good points for year end appraisal.
Forced rankings in the year end performance process.
In IT, too many people who talk a lot and come up with list of bullet points, but very few people who understand technology and can help when there are problems.
In IT, too many managers who seem more interested in climbing the corporate ladder, but lack any strong technical background.
Advice to Senior Management
In IT, please recruit people for technical skills and promote those who can be good people managers with a good technical background, rather than depending on outsourced companies for everything.
Pros
Great people. Great culture. Constantly changing.
Cons
IT infrastructure is almost always an issue.
Pros
I enjoyed the job. The people and management was friendly.
Cons
Some people are in management positions, who would hold you back in your career.
Advice to Senior Management
Never let managers, who are intimated by other employees, direct their future. Step in and make sure qualified employees are always placed with the company.
Pros
-Decent Pay/Benefits
-Flexible work arrangements
-High Quality Co-Workers
-Nice Facilities
-Spends money to keep up moral
Cons
-People tend to over analyze projects and people can make analysis match the desired outcome
-Horrible IT (It's a wonder this company is still in business considering how much they rely on IT)
-Promotions are very political (If you have a manager who won't fight for you then forget about getting promoted. Also, young analyst are promoted based on seniority. Once you have 18 months, you get promoted no matter how much you suck)
-Good analysts do not necessarily make good managers. People managers should have people skills!
-Company seems like they do not learn from previous mistakes. They seem to be willing to go down the same path that previously got them in trouble. Especially if their has been a change in management.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't depend on the data to make every little decision. The data is wrong pretty often or it can be molded to support any decision. Do a better job of promoting the best people which will help retain top talent.
