    Pros

    Good Benefits.
    Great work life balance.
The company is trending to become a leader in the industry in terms of it's use of technology.

    Cons

Leadership in many key roles tends to stay for 6 months and then moves on to new roles, or is replaced. This leads to initiatives never getting off the ground, or never being completed.

    Pros

The Compensation and facilities were good

    Cons

People Managers can't manage the people then are rated as average when feedback is given about their people manager skills.

    Advice to Management

Before you decide to layoff your employees make sure you are making the right decision. Capital One lost alot of talented people in a hastily made move.

    Pros

Company culture was very positive. The company holds a lot of events to promote morale. Employee wellness is also very well supported.

    Cons

Like any company, the department in which you work makes all the difference. The company is not afraid to make changes and this can sometimes leave you feeling a little lost.

    Pros

I worked at both the Plano, TX and Richmond, VA campuses during the time I was with Cap One. Both locations had a nice work environment, great facilities and a friendly atmosphere.

    Cons

IT Development was a pseudo - agile, sprint/scrum structure. If management was more agile it would work better. There were relatively few full time employees, mostly contractors and it seemed like the contracting companies would compete with each other rather than cooperate. Without much management oversight there were a lot of inefficiencies.

    Advice to Management

Managers seemed to be in their own world and involved in constant meetings rather than overseeing hands-on in actual project work. Because of that there was a lot of duplicate work being done. Throwing more people in each "bay" doesn't get more work done and neither does shipping work off-shore. The managers need to spend less time in management meetings and more time understanding the projects they are leading and how they fit into the big picture.

    Pros

Can't think of a single one, except corporate culture. They couldn't do anything right.

    Cons

Horrible processing, underwriting, management non-responsive, more focused on over-charging customers on credit cards that doing mortgage loans, and held a huge employee meeting to tell us exactly that. They ask for feedback, but then ignore constructive criticism and dismiss it just the same. No customer experience focus at all.

    Advice to Management

Close the mortgage division. concentrate on your credit cards, because you do more harm than good with your mortgage division.

    Pros

    - Campus in Plano is very nice
    - Pay and benefits seem to be good, though you may get better elsewhere

    Cons

    - Business doesn't seem to 'get' the need for operations excellent
    - If you're not a favorite, don't expect to get promoted
    - Sizable pockets of questionable people management including managers who blame their reports when things go wrong

    Advice to Management

    - Anonymous surveys aren't. Employees are smart enough to understand that negative feedback will generate repercussions.
    - Spend less time overanalyzing the numbers and more time talking to the people doing the work
    - Performance review payout structure discourages teamwork among peers
