    Pros

Smart people, and a great working environment.

    Cons

Occasional redeployments make your job non-secure. IT's a "young" company culture. You will be hard pressed to see many people over 55 walking around.

I worked at Capital One full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Awesome workplace; smart hardworking people, team spirit Very open culture, supports out of the box thinking Accepting of new ideas

    Cons

Change is always in the air - teams, team names, roles, org structures Tribal knowledge is key to success therefore new hires need to make connections quickly to succeed

    Advice to Management

Moving into technology is great but execution will continue to matter, Focus on strong execution is important, In the sharing economy reputations travel very fast and may have a lasting impact

I have been working at Capital One (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, time off, etc. Pockets of great leadership. Campuses are excellent - great work spaces and amenities. Coworkers are super bright, most committed to the success of projects, their teams, and their peers.

    Cons

Confused on their identity. Want to be a "tech" company, but are a large financial institution. This conflicts with federal regulations/controls/and risk reduction practices needed to support a financial institution. Also has a tendency to do a full pendulum swing verses really thinking through broadscale shifts in direction. In this new agile world, senior leadership should pilot, implement, learn in smaller pockets vs. taking an all or nothing approach to everything they do. It's ok though because with the tendency to overcorrect, wait a year or so and it will balance back to what would have made sense in the first place...

    Advice to Management

Wanting to be a leader in Tech doesn't mean following all the industry trends. Leaders lead, not follow. Get creative, make your own mark. Stop copying failed practices at other companies.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great facilities, decent pay and benefits, some good people. The experience varies from one dept to another. Good manager equates to good company.

    Cons

Too much change. Managers are shuffled around constantly before they can make a difference or be held accountable for their errors. Forcing a lot of old timers out in an effort to "embrace digital". Environment is becoming hostile to folks over 50.

    Advice to Management

Worry about competing with other financial institutions before declaring "we compete with Google and Apple" Value experience. It has a lot to do with getting you where you are today. Pick a strategy and see it through.

+ Compensation + Great people (smart, interesting) + Top-notch facilities + Lots of internal roles (to move around)

    Cons

    - Not loyal (no safe jobs, particularly if you are 50 and older) - Hard to get promoted (too much talent to compete against)

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The campus and buildings are beautiful in Richmond. The salary and benefits are among the best in the Richmond market. Most everyone I have worked with is high performing employee, that wants to do what is best/right. Everyone is dedicated to doing excellent work and focusing on constantly improving things. The company provides it's employees with the tools to do any job right.

    Cons

A very competitive environment. Employees are rated and forced into distribution (a bell curve). The problem is that some areas have such few employees at a particular level that they're forcing a distribution on less than 10 people. Like most large companies there are some politics and it can be hard to get things done. Meetings have overrun this place.

    Advice to Management

Change the culture to have less meetings and more working.
