I have been working at Cardinal Stritch University

    Pros

Assistantships provide up to 15 credits (6 per semester, 3 summer) annually as part of compensation.

    Cons

Different graduate programs have different course loads per semester and the university does not account for these differences. Stipends are also minimal and mainly cover fees that are not part of remission.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked my job-working with students and student services personnel. I liked getting off between Christmas and New Year's. There are some great people working here. The salary was decent for a private Catholic University.

    Cons

Crazy and misbehaving employees are tolerated for too long. Good people are let go for no good reason. Franciscan values are not in evidence in how employees are treated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Apply Franciscan values in your treatment of employees. Don't chew people up and spit them out. While you're at it, make Stritch a truly green university.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University

    Pros

There were some sincere, nice, employees who wanted to make a difference in the lives of students.

    Cons

There were truly troubled people that had leadership positions. These people were as far from the mission as possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to reorganize and concentrate on the main campus. Doing one thing great would be better than spreading yourself too thin by attempting to enter other markets. Send anonymous surveys out to all employees to see what is actually happening rather than count on the administrators truthfulness.

    Pros

The students are the best part of working at this university. Opportunities to interact with them and share knowledge. Fellow faculty show support and caring.

    Cons

While the university prides itself on Franciscan values they seem to have lost their way over the last few years. Administration no longer looks for faculty feedback but rather is centered on being a cold place to work with little respect for those with experience or ideas that are not top down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restore some of the belief in the faculty.

    Pros

Staff and many faculty mission driven and student focused. Presence and involvement of priests and religious positive impact.

    Cons

Long term administrators have self serving agendas that sabotage every President hired in last six years and have added unnecessary cost and waste of resources. Recent hire at senior administrative level will add to the dysfunction of leadership given history of events at prior institutions the individual worked. If you like drama at the leadership level this will be the place to work.

    Pros

Stritch truly lives its values and provides educational opportunities in an open and accessible fashion.

    Cons

Due to the amount change required to maintain relevance in the highly competitive Milwaukee higher education market, the workload is quite high across the board. However, this work is paying off as improved operations and performance are evident.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to improve the operations of the institution through the implementation of the strategic plan.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University

    Pros

Family atmosphere, small class sizes, great co-workers

    Cons

Extreme budgetary issues, absurd choices by management in setting goals and directions, poor choices in choosing management and supervision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start by reading the management textbooks that you claim to teach; management by fiat doesn't work well in an academic atmosphere.

    Pros

The best reasons to work here is to be around the future business people etc. Having constant access to them to help them succeed is very rewarding. Most of the staff are caring and patient.

They really care about your family life and want to see you happy. Many understand happy worker means happy students.

    Cons

There are other staffers that can be rude. There are some areas where you have no way of advancing. You have no way of getting more out of a position. With that you will be stonewalled for new ideas because of your lower position.

Compensation wasn't always the best. Changes were always done that hurt employees.

They literally laid off several employees only to months later hire new Management positions. The people laid off were lower end employees. Guess they knew where to stick it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure all areas have ways for employees to advance or get training. Make sure to invest in your staff as well student They (staff) are the ones that mold and teach the kids.

Make sure change is fair and what is needed. Not all change is good. Make sure there real line of open communication. Its often said but not really practiced.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There were really decent, hardworking, caring, staff. When Franciscan Sisters ran the University it had integrity and lived is mission. There was generous time off.

    Cons

Very poor upper management, particularly at the Dean level, creating a fearful, unhappy, culture with limited growth opportunity. The University has tried to move outside the Milwaukee campus to other markets where they don't have the resources to compete.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in new leadership and concentrate on the main campus. Do one thing well and be proud of it instead of offering subpar education in many areas.

I have been working at Cardinal Stritch University

    Pros

My colleagues - most are very friendly and hard working

    Cons

Some individuals continue to get written up but there are no consequences. The University does not understand the state of Minnesota competition and should not realistically continue to be promoted in the Twin Cities area because there aren't enough students to fill classes and get true benefit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close the doors on Minnesota - recruiting is abysmal and it isn't fair to those students to believe they are getting the complete education they should be.
