    Excellent Values Based Workplace

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStritch truly lives its values and provides educational opportunities in an open and accessible fashion.

ConsDue to the amount change required to maintain relevance in the highly competitive Milwaukee higher education market, the workload is quite high across the board. However, this work is paying off as improved operations and performance are evident.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to improve the operations of the institution through the implementation of the strategic plan.

Awesome until leadership change in CBM, Enrollment and student services

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsStaff and many faculty mission driven and student focused. Presence and involvement of priests and religious positive impact.

ConsLong term administrators have self serving agendas that sabotage every President hired in last six years and have added unnecessary cost and waste of resources. Recent hire at senior administrative level will add to the dysfunction of leadership given history of events at prior institutions the individual worked. If you like drama at the leadership level this will be the place to work.

The times they are a changing

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe professors are caring people who really value ensuring that students receive a quality education.

ConsThe university seems to have lost the focus of their mission. They are cutting funding to programs yet increasing costs to the students. Moving into a system that is all adjunct and little tenured faculty.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the mission statement and realign current realities to it. The input of faculty seems lost as well as the belief system, and rather than focussing on instruction your are focussed on accreditation.

    Fulfilling but frustrating

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFamily atmosphere, small class sizes, great co-workers

ConsExtreme budgetary issues, absurd choices by management in setting goals and directions, poor choices in choosing management and supervision.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart by reading the management textbooks that you claim to teach; management by fiat doesn't work well in an academic atmosphere.

Good environment to work and good people

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe best reasons to work here is to be around the future business people etc. Having constant access to them to help them succeed is very rewarding. Most of the staff are caring and patient.

They really care about your family life and want to see you happy. Many understand happy worker means happy students.

ConsThere are other staffers that can be rude. There are some areas where you have no way of advancing. You have no way of getting more out of a position. With that you will be stonewalled for new ideas because of your lower position.

Compensation wasn't always the best. Changes were always done that hurt employees.

They literally laid off several employees only to months later hire new Management positions. The people laid off were lower end employees. Guess they knew where to stick it.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure all areas have ways for employees to advance or get training. Make sure to invest in your staff as well student They (staff) are the ones that mold and teach the kids.

Make sure change is fair and what is needed. Not all change is good. Make sure there real line of open communication. Its often said but not really practiced.

    Lost its way

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere were really decent, hardworking, caring, staff. When Franciscan Sisters ran the University it had integrity and lived is mission. There was generous time off.

ConsVery poor upper management, particularly at the Dean level, creating a fearful, unhappy, culture with limited growth opportunity. The University has tried to move outside the Milwaukee campus to other markets where they don't have the resources to compete.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring in new leadership and concentrate on the main campus. Do one thing well and be proud of it instead of offering subpar education in many areas.

The leadership is not very respectful to employees and is not congruent to its values

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMy colleagues - most are very friendly and hard working

ConsSome individuals continue to get written up but there are no consequences. The University does not understand the state of Minnesota competition and should not realistically continue to be promoted in the Twin Cities area because there aren't enough students to fill classes and get true benefit

Advice to Senior ManagementClose the doors on Minnesota - recruiting is abysmal and it isn't fair to those students to believe they are getting the complete education they should be.

The Theatre Dept. is an island of positive work environment amidst a sea of insanity.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThis is just a review for the Theatre Dept. as a student worker, not Cardinal Stritch as a whole. I always felt appreciated and respected while working there and the work environment was fun. The pay is naturally low as a student worker but I loved every minute of it. But again, don't assume the rest of the University is like that.

ConsNot much for the Theatre Dept., except for maybe the time leading directly up to a performance during which the work load really ramps up. If you are sensitive to solvents or paint fumes know that you will have to deal with that regularly.

    On-Campus Work

Crew Member (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsMeet new people from all over the world
    Fun atmosphere
    Flexible with work hours

    ConsNot many hours
Have to be a student living in the dorms

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen it up to the public. Really fun place to work and learn.

I have worked at Cardinal Stritch University for over 8 years.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSmall, caring university where you are a person and not a number.

ConsTough financial times, lots of change in senior leadership in last 6 years (President, VPs, Deans). Lack of effective university policies and enforcement of policies.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on implementing cost effective change that will streamline operations. Set and enforce University policies and efficient processes. Hire bright and enthusiastic people from the outside that will bring in creative ideas that will focus on promoting a valued and reputable education while incorportaing the core Franciscan values.
