I have been working at Cardno full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I like my co-workers, our office culture, and the types of projects. It can get busy at times but our office values a work-life balance.

    Cons

Our office is very top heavy so it's hard to get much project management experience. Also, most of the top-down initiatives that come from corporate Cardno don't add anything to our bottom line. It was better before we were purchased by Cardno.

I have been working at Cardno full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of growth opportunities at the company. I was promoted three times in 2 years. Government is a great client to have and allows for a good work life balance.

    Cons

As with most government contracting firms, the ability to accomplish projects is as fast as the government client you see working for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great to see a government contractor operate at the speed of those technology companies. This is basically advise to all industries and sectors.

    Pros

Great people, shared values, collaborative work environment, many in-house training opportunities

    Cons

high stress, overloaded with work, underpaid, cannot avoid writing proposals which includes long hours, weekends & stress caused by tight deadlines and review panels.

    I worked at Cardno

    Pros

Very knowledgeable staff scientists. Learned a lot in a short time working in the field with Sr Scientists. Great work environment, family atmosphere.

    Cons

Overbearing senior management. Questionable judgement. Leadership through orders not example. Ethically, I did not feel good about the impacts of our work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Call it how it is, not just how the client wants it to be.

I have been working at Cardno

    Pros

Staff is friendly and willing to help with work load. Benefits are average and pay is ok

    Cons

Broken promises, micro manage, they care more about making their pennies count by the minute, never able to take breaks or take a full lunch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better management, don't make promises you don't intend to keep, cut the bs.

  8. Cardno's CMT department in Tempe Arizona is the last refuge for real-life "Bad Bosses".

I worked at Cardno full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They provide good equipment and competitive pay while the work lasts.

    Cons

Competence, experience, knowledge, great work ethic mean nothing. The local managers brought their favorite people with them from the last company they plundered. They feel a need to keep promises they made to those people. Everyone else goes under the bus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The middle managers at the CMT department in Tempe, Az. are driving away all their clients with unexpected final billing far in excess of their original quotes, to pay for project administration that the client doesn't need or want, or expect. I think Cardno is better than this small unethical group. Upper management should take a look at these guys. Their business is shrinking while the economy is rebounding. They're also losing their best technicians to competitors who value good employees.

I worked at Cardno full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good training, exciting job sites, safe work environment stressed, travel (per diem) and where I worked, we mostly all got along well. Christmas (holiday) parties were nice. Overtime pay makes up for lower salary. This was until I left in 2010.

    Cons

ERI was being bought out by a larger Cardno in 2010, and things started to change from a small company feel to big company games.
The pay was at the lower end of the spectrum (for my position) while I was there.
In order to get contracts, ERI under bid some projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A Certain branch manager used intimidation to get his job done. When this didn't work, some people found themselves out of a job.
