    I love the fact that the clients and tutors are prescreened.

    I wish people would be more specific in the scheduling area.

    I have been working at Care.com

    Pros

    Care.com is an excellent filter between you and a potential client. The customers looking for help can have access to your pertinent information only and you have access to who they are, and what their needs are etc. You choose to whom you apply and Care.com contacts you when someone has answered you. I have set to have text and email alerts sent to me to hasten a response time. You may also be contacted without having applied if someone likes your profile and information and you can look them up before responding. Care.com also has payment options for you to choose your method of payment and has Insurance available if you have your payments go through them, which you don't have to. I suggest having a background check on file and this is available through Care.com for 16$

    Cons

    The challenges are: The prime member cost per month is rather high respectively but you don't have to pay anything to be a member, but I have garnered more attention when I am featured as a prime member. It is also imperative that you be a self motivator because you will get the most out of it when you are assertive and on top of reply's and sending applications etc..

    Flexible scheduling.
    You are your own boss.
    Families list what they are looking for in terms of care.

    You are largely on your own and their are no benefits like insurance.

    If there were locations in some major cities that acted almost as temp agencies for those using the website, it would be beneficial.

    Pros

    The flexible schedule, and team oriented environment almost make this job doable.

    Cons

    The low pay, more and more demands without significant pay hikes, and no benefits make this a short term stint only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay these employees more-they are on the front line of reviewing members, offer more bonuses, paid time off.

    I worked at Care.com full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    The engineering team is always current on new technologies and integrating new ones. It's a highly competent team, but they think they're quite a bit better than they are.

    Cons

    You're there to work and work and that's it. Don't even think about trying to make suggestions about any ways to improve anything. You'll be told in no uncertain terms that you're there to code and that's it. It's also like a good old boy network, if you worked with them in a previous company, you're golden, if not, you're just a code monkey.
    You should also not expect to have a life, if you don't want to put in 50-60 hours minimum, you won't fit in.
    Pay is very low for work expected, which is why so much of the team is outsourced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to all the employees, not the favored inner circle. So many people have ideas and are ignored. Get some diversity of work backgrounds. It seems like half the company all worked together previously.

    Pros

    Great visionaries in senior management, including Sheila who inspires me every day. "Fun force" is a great way to relax and they have fun events planned sprinkled throughout the year.

    Cons

    Wish it were in downtown / Cambridge so it would be closer to good eats.
