I worked at Career Education full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay; good co-workers; company does employee events such as holiday parties, and gives permission for departments to hold their own celebrations; there can be some flexibility with work hours to give a slightly better work/life balance.

    Cons

Policies vary across the company and are hard to keep track of; training is not comprehensive across the board; bureaucracy can get in the way of solutions being implemented; no real potential for advancement in my particular department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you hire the right person for the right job, in regards to employees, managers, and higher-ups. Enforce standardized policies across all schools and levels of business.

I have been working at Career Education full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As far as technology to deliver an educational solution to the student, there are few if any that can compete with the platform.

    Cons

CEC is great at promises during the recruiting process. Sadly, it doesn't turn into reality, ever. The company (and it is a company) has lost focus on the students and the only thing that matters is the bottom line. The leadership in the company is lacking and the strategic vision of the corporation is unknown. Layoffs are very common place and the work of the displaced employees is never back filled. The company is also highly political and if your opinion is to the contrary, you've limited your career potential.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with employees, be honest with prospective students and be honest with yourself.

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Pay was good
    Hour long lunch

    Cons

    Micromanagement
    Diploma mill for their students
    No place for advancement
They put in place these attendance points that if you were late by 1 minute you would get points deducted. It was so stupid.
New CEO laid everyoneoff without notice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micromanage people. Everything isn't about numbers.

    destroy them

    Cons

I worked at Career Education full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The main benefit of working here is that you can get a foot in the door and some experience before moving on

    Cons

The corporation will not show loyalty to you; once I realized this by seeing how it treated others, I made sure to get out asap. The entire for-profit education industry is constantly under federal scrutiny, and in my opinion takes advantage of those who don't know any better; the business model is completely unstable; very very high turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to communicate better to your employees; do not point fingers or play the blame game

    Pros

Good opportunity for entry level college faculty. Anyone who would like to get their first opportunity as college faculty member could get some experience here.

    Cons

Constant course schedule changes make it difficult to hold onto faculty for more than a semester. The pay is low for the faculty about half of what they could be paid at a traditional college.
