Pros
*Excellent corporate culture. I loved my managers, co-workers, and coming to the office
* Very flexible with scheduling, work/life balance
* Management team empowered us to make our own decisions
* Learned a lot about the industry in a short time...great professional development
* Management Team is quite competent
*Competitive benefits
Cons
* The salary for non-sales people sucks across the board. Many on our operations team started as contractors, so they got the horrible CB salary, and none of the benefits.
* Sometimes a bit of a "high school" like atmosphere, "who you know" is very important
* Sometimes a lack of communication between sales and operations, leading to project confusion.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase the pay for your operations and delivery staff. You lose an awful lot of very good talent each year because other firms are willing to pay what they are worth.
Pros
The culture of the office is fantastic, as far as the sales reps is concerned. Good benefits. Very good compensation. Senior leadership is great. Flexibility in your schedule. Sales reps are empowered to make decisions.
Cons
A glaring downside: promotions are not necessarily based on merit. A big factor in getting promoted (in the sales department) is based on favoritism and likeability. There is a "clique-ish" enviornment in middle management. Very disappointing.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to senior management: increase your focus on the "soft skills" of your middle managers.
My advice to middle management: be more professional. Quit "chirping" to another about your sales reps. You inadvertently either help or hinder a sales reps' ability for advancement because of your gossip.
Pros
Leadership is great, the communication is very active and clear and the company seems to offer a lot of stuff to try and make its employees happy.
Cons
CareerBuilder pays well below market rate for many positions outside of sales. It's a great company but the low pay makes it diffcult to stay for many years. Some of the best employees leave because of low pay increases and low starting salary.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing would make CareerBuilder the best of the best like increasing starting salaries. this would keep the best employees from drifting to other companies after a couple of years.
Pros
Pay, Incentives, Culture, Ability for advancement
Cons
Can easily go up and down with the economy
Pros
Fun company events, such as: Playing Softball on Wrigley Field, BBQ's, Field Trips.
Young Co-workers. Fun office.
Cons
Bottom Line... I was in a Cold-Calling position... Never fun to get yelled at by a company's gatekeeper at 8am. (Fun way to start your day).
Pros
Many career opportunities and trainings for professional development. Offer great tution reimbursement program and health and wellness program.
Cons
Entry level sales jobs are high turnover.
Pros
It was great to be able to say that I worked there. The reputation was great. It was also easy to get to in the Loop.
Cons
It was like a whole bunch of college kids working together in a pressure cooker of sale sales sales. Instead of seeing the skills and talent in people that might be able to do more than they were asked for, they looked down on you if deadlines were not met. Even if the reason for not meeting them was because you discovered that how you were doing it was not going to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a moment and see it from the level of the person you are speaking to. It is not always the same in the trenches as it is in the management office.
Pros
Great Benefits
Understanding Management
Freedom to run your own "business"
Not micro-managed
Great Location Downtown near all CTA buses and trains
Cons
Pay is not very competitive but even operational (non sales) employees receive quarterly bonuses based on quarterly goals they set with their management as well as how well the company performs
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees for their worth. Many people are leaving because they can find jobs at companies nearby with better salaries.
Pros
- premium skill development platform
- rewards hard workers
- Cars.com + Groupon are two companies that actively sought to duplicate CareerBuilders entry level sales foRce success.
Cons
- Narrow Vision + Lack of Flexibility from the top leadership....
Leadership has a round hole that they insist everyone fit into....
End result is frustrated + demotivated sales teams.
Advice to Senior Management
The VBU does what you want it to do but I believe it's future+ long term success require a significant philosophical process change. The best reps in the VBU consistently report "hating their lives". Figure out a different productivity optimizer other than activity blahnonstop,
Pros
Great leadership, focusing on delivering sales and results for our clients.
Cons
The constantly changing sales force.
