Pros
It was great to be able to say that I worked there. The reputation was great. It was also easy to get to in the Loop.
Cons
It was like a whole bunch of college kids working together in a pressure cooker of sale sales sales. Instead of seeing the skills and talent in people that might be able to do more than they were asked for, they looked down on you if deadlines were not met. Even if the reason for not meeting them was because you discovered that how you were doing it was not going to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a moment and see it from the level of the person you are speaking to. It is not always the same in the trenches as it is in the management office.
Pros
CareerBuilder is a fantastic company that understands the value of its employees. They have phenomenal training, earned advancement in your career path, & the best benefits I have ever seen. The pay is competitive, you will make as much work as you are putting in. The consistently encourage our personal and professional growth. Leadership is always there for help, unlike other organizations where they sit in their ivory towers waiting for you to figure it out or fail. The sales resources are virtually unlimited and the peers in this office are always supportive. I fully enjoy my job, even after all my time here.
Cons
The only real downside is the same as every other downside in a sales role...it's sales. There is pressure, expectations, and the occasional unhappy potential client. At least here, there is always support to get you to your numbers.
Pros
Innovative company.
Works with your ideas to let you run with them.
Promotions can come quickly.
Great management.
Cons
Changes aren't incredibly transparent.
The sales staff is the heart of CB so at times it feels like there is a disconnect with other groups.
Advice to Senior Management
Middle management needs to be a little more transparent with big changes, otherwise it's great!
Pros
- Quiet Office
- Great Coworkers
- Helpful Manager
- I am working my favorite job
- They will pay for you to finish your degree
Cons
The only thing I can see as a draw back is that from what I have heard you do not get paid as much as other companies.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Great Benefits
Understanding Management
Freedom to run your own "business"
Not micro-managed
Great Location Downtown near all CTA buses and trains
Cons
Pay is not very competitive but even operational (non sales) employees receive quarterly bonuses based on quarterly goals they set with their management as well as how well the company performs
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees for their worth. Many people are leaving because they can find jobs at companies nearby with better salaries.
Pros
From a great work environment to being able to come into the office in jeans and a t-shirt this workplace is great. From what I hear you don't get paid as much as some other places but the atmosphere and other benefits greatly outweigh the salary aspect.
Cons
I have no problems yet except for the salary not being as high as some other places
Pros
- premium skill development platform
- rewards hard workers
- Cars.com + Groupon are two companies that actively sought to duplicate CareerBuilders entry level sales foRce success.
Cons
- Narrow Vision + Lack of Flexibility from the top leadership....
Leadership has a round hole that they insist everyone fit into....
End result is frustrated + demotivated sales teams.
Advice to Senior Management
The VBU does what you want it to do but I believe it's future+ long term success require a significant philosophical process change. The best reps in the VBU consistently report "hating their lives". Figure out a different productivity optimizer other than activity blahnonstop,
Pros
Benefits are incredible, including a generous PTO policy. Flexible work schedule makes it easier to maintain a good work and life balance.
Cons
The salaries are jokingly low for the demands put upon employees. Whenever people are fired, quit or laid off, they are rarely replaced, making extra work for those who are already overworked and underpaid. Diamond Club trip is ridiculous, those who are chosen are chosen on criteria that varies widely by department.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase pay for non-sales positions to reduce turnover. The functions of the company outside of sales are necessary for success, yet many quality people have left due to ridiculously low pay.
Pros
*Great culture
*Great people
*Plenty of additional learning opportunities
*Most people are passionate about success
*Constant change makes it exciting
Cons
*Favoritism abounds
*Recognition doesn't always go to the people who deserve it.
*Communication between departments can be lacking causing ineffiencies
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure you are rewarding and recognizing the people who make your business run like clockwork. Improve communication between departments by holding joint planning meetings or just ensuring notification is given.
Pros
*Education. They let you take whatever you want that peaks your interest
*half day Fridays during the summer.
*Jean Fridays
*Quiet office and manager ready to answer any question
Cons
*Training program still being changed..
*Software system we use doesnt always work
*Satellite offices are not always as connected or similar to the main office
Advice to Senior Management
*Really highlight success stories and share with your targetted opportunity clients instead of making the rep search them out. You guys get communications I think we don't hear about!
