I have been working at Cargill Canada full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

International scope Lots of turnover so positions are always open Healthy living allowance

    Cons

Salary Work life balance No advancement opportunities Lack of action on equal rights issues

    Advice to Management

The longer you work there the more it's obvious the way to get promoted is to go to a certain college, be an fmr, then a sales manager (that'll open up quick because of all the turn over), then get promoted for agreeing with everything and throwing your employees under the bus. Morale is terrible, the people I talk to who left the place, you'd swear they were talking about escaping from somewhere they were held against their will. Management doesn't seem willing to admit there's an issue and it's really disappointing. The people advancing are real head scratchers, if you ask their previous reports, most would have alarmingly negative things to say. Also, terrible work environment for women, it's a time warp. I suppose learning what you don't want and who u don't want to be like in life is valuable, but this was a terrible experience. I'm surprised they haven't had any suits filed against them for their gender inequality.

If you're a white male aggie who thinks women don't belong in the corporate world, this is the place for you!

I worked at Cargill Canada full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

World's largest privately owned company. If you are a white male, don't rock the boat, and are willing to relocate, you will climb the corporate ladder!

    Cons

Compensation is on the low end. Merit increases aren't performance related. Cargill is like Mad Men! White males run the place, upper management and CEO are drinking buddies outside of work, they have their favourites while at work and don't attempt to hide it. HR dept is all women and they speak of diversity and being against discrimination in the workplace, but women are still treated like second class citizens (lower pay, rarely promoted to managerial roles, emails ignored, excluded from decision making, etc). If you happen to mention this, even in strict confidence, you are marked and eventually disposed of (let go, downsized, restructured...they will find a way to get you out!). Would definitely not recommend any women work here if they want to be taken seriously and are looking for a promising career.

I have been working at Cargill Canada (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cargill cares about its employees and its communities. The head office in Winnipeg is a very comfortable place to work and they have a number of employee perks. Including an onsite fitness facility and an easy to get to downtown location. The people are friendly and welcoming to new employees. Flex time is good too.

    Cons

Too many organizational changes which sometimes affect engagement and even employment. Cargill agrees that they are not the highest when it comes to compensation, and it can sometimes be difficult to advance.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of good ideas floating around with the employees, so don't under estimate that when working with outside contractors or experts.

I have been working at Cargill Canada full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to contribute, many internal and cross business connections, long term employment prospects when working in the food sector

    Cons

Big company approach to management, corporate processes miss the mark at the local level, significant turnover in top level mgt over last 2 years

    Advice to Management

Priortize corporate initiatives, lead and manage work so employees can be effective and efficient rather than only asking the employees to "figure it out"
