    Pros

Safety always number one, Customers then Production.

    Cons

    Lag of Lean Manufacturing Principles

    Advice to Management

put employees before self, departments budget balance, utilize internal resources instead of using contractors to perform daily task, have local internal resources involved with system migration project (work hand-in-hand with vender engineers)

    Pros

You have high viability with leadership. High amount of travel. The job duties cross multiple departments so experience is well rounded. You are constantly working and developing suppliers to maximize their value proposition. Great business experience.

    Cons

Lack of integrity. Cost savings is the only driver. Over worked. Lack of career advancement internal to the department. Too much politics. Not a team environment . Poor leadership. Not strategic. Poor engagment. On boarding process is a sink or swim approach. Human Resources is not resourceful. Our internal customers hate working with us. Central procurement is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Do the opposite of everything above.

    Pros

    stable environment; large scope projects

    Cons

A little bit of a "we have always done it this way" environment; new processes or ways of thinking not always appreciated.

  7. Good experience, but terrible pay if you're a chemical engineer compared to other industries.

    Pros

Strong ethics, good teamwork, easy to see results, visible management team, private ownership allows longer term thinking, hard to get fired.

    Cons

Pay only benchmarked to food industry, not chemical industry; very regimented raises and pay bands, if hired from outside at "above market" (Cargill pays below market) you won't see a raise for a couple of years at least. You also MUST be willing to move around/relocate to advance or be safe if a plant is shut down.

    Advice to Management

Either pay better or stop recruiting chemical engineers; be upfront about the need to relocate and don't blackball those who don't want to if you already hired them.

    Pros

Cargill business is vast and fascinating. Coming in I thought it would be a fairly boring old business, set in it's ways and always trying to pinch another penny out of it's cost for what largely is a commodity-based business. Instead, I found it to be a very vast and diverse business that was quite interesting and exciting. The work culture was very engaging.

    Cons

Like any large company. (Cargill is the largest privately-held company in the world) Cargill can be a bit of a monster with process and rules. There are many who can stop or delay in initiative and few who can make it happen.

The culture is under a significant change (at least in IT) with the outsourcing of its' entire infrastructure to the India-based company TCS. This is a monstrous blow to the thing that Cargill had going for it...it's culture.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose the good things that has made Cargill a great place to work under the guides of cost cutting.

    Pros

Always something to learn when you come into work. In my area, we don't deep-dive into any one portion of the company, so I got a cool survey of nearly everything the company has to offer. Strong company values and looking to improve corporate responsibility footprint.

    Cons

This is a company for people who are later in their career. There is a focus on development, but I think it's lacking. Slow to move on anything. Compensation just okay.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on values and look to outside our walls to improve. Work harder to tell the Cargill story.

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Constantly changing strategies. Expectations of their employees is not reasonable at times. Work and life balance is lacking. Motto is to retain good talent, but that is not followed at all locations.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people doing the day to day work and bad decisions can be avoided.
