Being a French teacher assistant at Carleton helps you maintain your French while working with nice people.

    Pros

The students are talented, engaged and hardworking. Carleton college is a very friendly environment. The technology and equipments for learning languages and just about anything are diverse and make learning and teaching rich experiences.

    Cons

The Minnesotan weather can get you at times. It gets extremely cold. Also Carleton is in an isolated and small time. If you are more used to life in the city, this might be a big challenge, especially if you plan to stay there for long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are doing a good job at making the place as comfortable as possible.

Good Academic Program but Unrealistic for Life after College

    Pros

Students are very academically curious. Faculty is the best. Staff at school are very nice

    Cons

Living at Carleton was like breathing through a small liberal arts bubble. While the school worked students out extremely hard (aka GPA is often deflated), the brand is nowhere near strong. This leaves you at a very weak position with non-stellar GPA from a almost no-name college outside of Minnesota (unless you're applying to grad school then there you go!)

    Great work study arrangements

    Pros

Pays higher than Minnesota state minimum wage, which is excellent for college students on a budget.

    Cons

Some jobs really are work-study, others are just work. Those in a dining hall can't study and serve food, while those who work in the recreation center have a lot more time to do homework.

    Pros

Student who are employed are allowed to build their work schedules around their academic schedule, and the supervisors are very flexible when allotting shifts.

    Cons

It may be difficult to switch jobs or positions throughout the academic year if you choose to do so. Furthermore as the academic year progresses it may be difficult to fit in student employment with academic work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Taking students' schedule into consideration is convenient for both students and faculty.

Surrounded by friendly students who constantly engage in intellectual debates
Faculty is superb and friendly, and extremely helpful to everyone

    Cons

The health benefits is nonexistent unless you work 40 hours a week
Northfield is a small town with nothing much to offer for entertainment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing much to offer, because leadership at Carleton College is pretty fantastic, and the dress code is nonexistent. Great job overall.

    Pros

When you work your student job, it takes money off your tuition. Overall it's a pretty good deal for students.

    Cons

There is no opportunity for advancement for students. Whatever job you have is going to pretty much be your job until you graduate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

allow a vertical worker structure, give some additional opportunities for responsibility to student workers. Institute raises for workers who deserve them.

    Pros

I was very happy to work for hte college. Through my position, I met many iteresting people and the jobs themselves were not that difficult.

    Cons

During one of my jobs at the college, there was a professor that was slightly difficult to work with. However, everything turned out fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One boss I had was absolutely wonderful. The other was more difficult. Overall, though, the pay was good and I am satisfied.
