    Pros

manager gets resources needed, then stays out of the way so that professionals can get the job done right. No micromanaging!

    Cons

not in the top league as far as research universities go, so not much depth in terms of on-site collaboration, but so what- research is now global via the Internet, so this is no longer much of a hindrance

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, know when to step in to get resources for your people, and when to step out so they can get the job done.

    Pros

World-leading research, friendly and tight-knit faculty, scenic campus, highly competent and helpful admin and HR staff. Science (including computer science and math) and Engineering faculties, with which I had direct contact, are very strong

    Cons

Reliance on government funding and grants can create financial uncertainties and headaches, and entails dealing with bureaucracy on a regular basis

    Advice to Management

Stronger advertising and PR campaigns would help improve Carleton's name recognition. Carleton should be a household name as one of the strongest universities in Canada, but currently is not!

I have been working at Carleton University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Carleton University offer one of the best student to professor relation I have ever heard of.

    Cons

Could be considered as fairly small in comparison to sister school U of O. It is however very easy to get around the campus as a result of this.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good job.

I have been working at Carleton University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    good opportunities for personal growth;

    Cons

university administration difficult to work with - they can take 2 months reimbursing money that they over-charged students by mistake, but students are expected to provide that money within days

I have been working at Carleton University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The faculty members in the Dept. that I've interacted with have been nice, helpful and good researchers. Good benefits package. Very helpful HR/payroll staff. The work life balance is good as well and there is flexibility with taking time off or working from out of town for short periods.

    Cons

The funds for speakers from out of town are a little lower than ideal so there aren't as many colloquia as one would like.

  11. Great Experience as Teaching Assistant

I have been working at Carleton University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great way to reinforce concepts learned by teaching them to younger students at office hours and through emails. High hourly pay. Good part-time job as a student.

    Cons

Sometimes hard to understand the professor's marking schemes. Can be hard to balance school work on top of hours of marking, office hours and running tutorials.
