ProsA wonderful balance of professional and personal time, and Carnegie Learning offers awesome growth opportunities and potential to experience awesome personal challenges. There is a ton of autonomy in the office, yet it's easy to get feedback and advice when needed which helps you grow as a professional.

ConsBecause of its size, it's possible to run into operational problems that don't occur in larger organizations. The technology of the product is incredible, but the office technology can sometimes become cumberson and difficult to navigate especially when trying to pull certain reports or look at specific data points. The people within the team though are consistantly trying to improve this issue and the operations department is very helpful when dealing with these challenges.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

A great workplace with a worthwhile mission

Software Developer (Current Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at Carnegie Learning

ProsThe company's mission of helping children learn math is very rewarding. Co-workers are all dedicated to this goal, so there tends to be less politics than at most companies. Co-workers are very smart and dedicated, so it's a great team environment. Everyone pulls his weight equally.

ConsInternal disagreements about pedagogy sometimes get in the way of getting the best learning technology in the hands of students as quickly as possible. It's often hard to reconcile the need to make a profit with the desire to educate students. Sales can fluctuate for reasons that are hard to understand, so it can be frustrating to see that getting in the way of the product getting into the hands of students who need it.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore transparency is always better. Low-level employees often have good ideas that it's hard for management to become aware of.

Downward spiral...stay away.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Carnegie Learning full-time for more than 5 years

ProsNon-management staff is hard working and fun to work with. Great products. Excellent staff of developers and top researchers in the field of cognitive science. Some teams allow telecommuting.

ConsLong hours, no raises for several years, little to no opportunity for advancement, nepotism, hiring of inexperienced employees as managers and VPs, terrible communication, terrible at hiring replacements for employees that leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a reason your talent is leaving in droves, and it isn't their fault. Look at what you are doing wrong and fix the issues that are making your company a difficult place to work.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
