A large amount of money considering what I was actually doing. This is more like assistance instead of a part-time job.

I have been working at Carnegie Mellon University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Many growth opportunities to move throughout the college. Free onsite professional development courses.

    Cons

With most jobs, the job is only as pleasant as the manager in charge. I had more good managers than bad but there were a couple of bad apples.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide constructive feedback to employees throughout the year. Empower your employees to make decisions.

I have been working at Carnegie Mellon University

    Pros

Carnegie Mellon is a special place - there is probably no other University like it in terms of creativity, innovation, interdisciplinary, and the dedication of the people who work and study there. It's the kind of place many places try to be but just cant because it isn't part of the culture. If you get the opportunity to work there, you should do it! Each college is different, but at the Heinz College, they care about their employees, supportive of entrepreneurial efforts and work to get people into places where they can do their best work.

    Cons

Staff salaries are competitive, but VERY low annual percentage increases - typical 1-2 % which doesn't keep up with the true increased cost of living. Healthcare plan is outrageously priced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thank you overall! The CEO is new so I don't have any opinion on his effectiveness yet... although he is making a lot of changes and it will be exciting to see how things unfold. He seems great so far.

    Cons

The courses at CMU are very intensive and time consuming. Although they are very comprehensive, but depending on the person everyone might not need to know everything about a field.
