I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The system believes in growth, professionalism, integrity and care for their clients without compromise!

    Cons

I had exhausted my FMLA, my position was posted. Upon being released I had to reapply like a new employee. This is their policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Being unemployeed is very difficult and scary place to be. If you really care for clients, which are the employees , when they return from FMLA, then sent to Transitional program is nice, but while you are waiting with no income for an interview, hoping you will get approved, all disability should not cease immediately.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As a nurse you can do so many different things. CHS offers unlimited possibilities.

    Cons

Most positions include previous expeince in the job listings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

An experienced RN, with the fundamentals and excellent performance reviews, should not be immediately eliminated if not experienced in that area. After all, you yourself were not always a cardiac nurse or labor/delivery nurse, etc.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Able to visit a CHS dr for only $10! But Obamacare is changing that...as of 2016 everyone will be on a 70/30 plan (CHS can't help this)....Once you get passed the 90 days, you are set in your job! If you have issues....remember everyone has a boss! Able to go above your boss if things are not settled. Around 4,000 people are hired each year, but around 500,000 people apply each year (This was told at orientation August 2014) Able to transfer to a new worksite within CHS 6 months after hire date, then yearly after that. Manager has to release you though (could take a while).

    Cons

If you are doing something wrong, your boss will not tell you until it is around time to get a bonus! (you get bonuses, as long as you have no write ups)....I was called AT HOME on a holiday for my manager to tell me that I have not been doing things correctly and she wants to come in on HER DAY OFF to do my yearly evaluation to talk about everything I am doing wrong!! I asked her why she didn't tell me immediately if I was going something wrong and she made up some lame excuse! Ridiculous....and lack of policies and procedures...many things are "understood"....so if your trainer doesn't tell you everything you should know, then you are assumed to know it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so clicky and finding certain people to pick on! It is sad to know that your best workers are coming to work feeling intimidated and scared of losing their job because they haven't been sucking up to upper management (Coming from someone who upper management happens to like). Sad :(

I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System (more than an year)

    Pros

Large company with tons of resources. Did my clinical rotation for nursing school at CMC Main and liked it for the most part.

    Cons

As with most nursing units there will always be "clicks". Downside to this company is that when I was enrolled in their nursing school (before I switched and graduated from another local school) they kicked me out and put me down as a "no rehire" because I informed my professors that I wanted to attend my grandmothers funeral. I grew up in a large tight knight family and have strong family values. It's horrible that taking 1-3 days off (my family is on the west coast) for a death of a close family member would bar me for life of any opportunities at this corporation. The nursing instructors were incredibly rude and disrespectful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat all staff like individuals.
