I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, very fair. I've moved up from being a pharmacy tech to a home infusion coordinator, it took me about 3 years to do this, most employees do not advance above their current position as every one is specifically trained for certain skill sets.

    Cons

Lack of opportunity for advancement within the branch that I currently work for. I would have to leave to advance my career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage teamwork and learning as much as possible from your staff.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System

    Pros

Really great stepping stone into other areas of healthcare IT.
Great hours once you gain some seniority

    Cons

If you are working in the support center be prepared to work extremely hard. They are understaffed and the call volume is massive. There could be 14-15 reps all on the phone with 15-30 calls holding. The Support Center is kind of like the red headed step child of their IT support. The rest of the building or teams have greater flexibility and able to manager their workflow better. If it''s a Monday, be prepared to come in, sit down and answer calls back to back to back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff the Support Center accordingly so reps do not burn out.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility and Stability. As a PRN employee you can decide where and when you want to work. Perfect for working parents and students.

    Cons

The pay is much less than other hospitals/agencies. Travelers make double to triple the amount. Which is basically what a float nurse does.

I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System

    Pros

It's a good place to work if you're looking for a job to start your career. Some of the people I worked with were great.

    Cons

Bureaucratically driven atmosphere. Leadership is only around when they need something and I wouldn't look to this place for advancement. Not very flexible with schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to those who make you the millions. The people who make your company run. Be more flexible. Afford opportunity to those who work hard.

I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The doctors at this clinic are amazing and overall they are very easy to work with. You get typical M-F hours and all the benefits of Carolinas Healthcare System.

    Cons

The workload is intense, and you get very little support from office managers because most of them do not have a medical degree. Many of the managers seem to have been promoted beyond what they are really capable of doing effectively. It is extremely difficult to get time off to have any work-life balance. I would put in vacation requests 6 months in advance & still had trouble getting them approved! I also tried to transfer to other clinics/departments within CHS and couldn't even get an interview. Other employees I talked to reported the same experience. It is like they block your transfer requests, so you have no choice but to leave if you don't like your job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire office managers that have medical degrees and more support staff so you can respond to PTO requests in a timely manner. Your staff work hard & deserve to feel supported!

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System

    Pros

Lots of med/surg experience for new grads. If you can work on the spinal cord unit then you can work anywhere.

    Cons

Some staff offers to help but others don't. Work load is heavy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer to help more, take trachs and vents into consideration when staffing.
