I worked at Carrier full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great staff, great supervision. Team approach throughout levels of organization. Extensive knowledge of product and end client.

    Cons

More research labs would always be welcomed. However, the talented lab technicians and everyone's flexibility made product testing non-stop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None. Felt supported everyday.

    Pros

Carrier has many platforms of opportunity that can advance your career along with company paid continuing education. There are divisions and plants throughout the United States to go for these opportunites if you wish to relocate.

    Cons

As in all large corporations, there is bureaucracy and cultures within the groups and divisions and if you are on the outside of those cliques, you will be stuck. Once you are "labelled" it can feel like you have lost control of your career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an open dialog with your employees without the fear of retaliation. Most of the former empoyees I've known at Carrier desired employment with a company that they felt provided them with more control of their future.

I worked at Carrier full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company takes a personal interest in you as a person. There is an excellent balance between work life and personal life. The benefits are top notch. The medical and dental insurance are great. They also have company paid life insurance and they match up to 3% on your contributions to your 401K.

    Cons

You get paid a bonus based on what the branch sells as a whole. You would think that this would be a good thing. However, the numbers were always generated by corporate in Syracuse and the numbers never seemed to match what we know we sold at the local level.

I have been working at Carrier full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Easy job, parties, employee trips and flexibility

    Cons

Low pay, no advancement to full time, manager routinely missing, automating process to phase out hourly employees.

Boy do these people love meetings even if there is nothing new to say they have a weekly meeting to cover nothing that last for at least and hour. The ACE program is a joke, they love the Toyota way with out really doing it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have good people stop allowing them to leave. The job market has shifted again and your still acting like you can get highly trained people for next to nothing and the good news is you cannot. People need to be paid for getting a better degree or a degree period.

    I worked at Carrier

    Pros

Vested in continuing education, pretty good benefits.

    Cons

Middle management is not professional, not productive. Emphasis is not put on the fact that the hourly workforce makes or breaks a business. Management does a lot of talking to and about the hourly but it's basically just condescending.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work on continuous improvement. Carrier seems to be behind other businesses in processes and computer systems.
