I worked at Carson Pirie Scott part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great quality company, good sense of teamwork, job training.

    Cons

The pay for the hours worked, minimum wage for a labor heavy job in stock/receiving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay should be higher for the labor of those who place and organize merchandise working the store and for those who unload the trucks.

    Pros

Co-workers are great! MOST customers are wonderful. Discounts are nice.

    Cons

Training was "Black Thursday/Friday!" Management treats sales staff like children, with no niceness, feels like grade school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Notice who does what well and partner them with people that could use advice in weak areas. If the store closes no one would be surprised because there is no loyalty to the employees nor the customers.

    Pros

I cannot think of one single thing

    Cons

If you are a person in retail who is committed to providing a great customer experience, these stores are extraordinarily frustrating. There is such little payroll available that the operational tasks have to take precedence (or there would be nothing to purchase on the sales floor). As a result, customers get a terrible experience throughout most of the store. Also, I encountered the worst leadership I've ever worked with throughout a long retail career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even a small investment in labor would help alleviate the service-starved sales floor.

    Pros

The discounts?? And I worked with some really greatl coworkers;)

    Cons

The management treats their employees like children. There was NEVER a positive statement made when you were excelling at your job, but if your numbers weren't what they wanted to see, they were mean and demeaning about it!! Made employees very bitter;( They hire AND fire at the drop of a hat....loved my fellow employees, but the management made it a huge competition, which in turn caused friction. It sucks to feel like you have to walk on pins and needles at your job.DO NOT work there!!!!! AWEFUL EXPERIENCE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like you would want to be treated yourselves....and when an employee is going above and beyond for you, BE THANKFUL!!

    Awesome co-workers....not the worst job

    Cons

Managers seem crabby and unprofessional. Tend to look down their noses at employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You would be nothing without your associates. Treat them with at least minimal respect.

Nice job for a high schooler, probably not the best place to work full time.

    Pros

The training is super easy and paid. You stare at a computer monitor going through mundane questions and a brief history of the company; takes maybe an hour. On holidays and special occasions, the sales associates were offered catered food and there was always plenty throughout the day. Overall an easy job

    Cons

The schedules were very inconsistent, you never knew what your next week would look like and it would never look the same twice. Occasionally, the CEO would pay the store a visit and walk around with his troupe of suits, never even looking at anyone who wasn't the store manager and had a cold demeanor. Management was also inconsistent. They were switched around multiple times and you would have a new manager almost every other month. BEWARE OF THE HOLIDAYS! You will end up living at the store with insane hours and long days. No real opportunities for advancement.

    Pros

really none at all. you can't move up. even a lot of workers here are rude n horrible!

    Cons

Minimum wage still after years!!! Workers that didn't want to work slacked off and got paid more.(this was a known thing and managers would let them) You do the work of a few people b/c you are short handed/ the people there don't work a lot. Very high turn over rate, people would quit all the time without notice. Managers don't care about anything and are rude just like a lot of workers. Managers and workers talk crap about everyone. No professionalism workers and managers will call everyone out for making a mistake and accusing when you didn't do the mistake. Managers made a show out of lecturing you and being rude in front of all workers to a lot of people for no reason. Constant last minute schedule changes if you were believed to be off. Many mandatory days that you have to work a lot of months even if it's not your regular job. They will make it just enough hours sometimes so you can't have a break. If you can't/ try to say u can't work mandatory days you are to feel tense and punished with your job being compromised. Hard dripping sweat work not recognized/ no incentives for labor job. Manager just a joke, get mad when u had a simple question or polite comment. Very tense you are feeling like. Get no help really from managers when there was always too much work and short staff!!! They wait forever to hire extra people but they all quit anyways. You are FIRED if you don't work 12 hours for black friday. So not worth all the stress for an average check of $100 bucks. I could go on much longer but it would be a thousand pages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't be managers and be professional and not insulting like a gossiping highschooler
