    Pros

Great opportunity to define your space. Lots of change, so lots of ways to move up and around in the organization

    Cons

Organizational change has been a distraction.

    Advice to Management

Build organically. We have not incorporated acquisitions well.

    Pros

everyone who has been at castle for a while is very tight knit and supportive of each other. Take on new people with open arms. Good promotional opportunities

    Cons

the company changes executives often so it seems unstable to the outside workplace world

    Advice to Management

hiring new employees at higher rates when those before them had more experience creates trust issues with current employees and resentment towards new employees. unreachable goals make working here seem daunting and most people leave because there are unfair advantages and praise given to those who may not deserve them

I have been working at Castle Metals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It has been a great place to work until the past few years. The changes in management has gotten everyone worried. Layoffs are leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth wondering if they are next.

    Cons

There are too many people talking about other people and not getting enough work done. Management seems to disregard this. People have worked their way up but new hires are getting the same pay as people that have years with the company. They should start at the bottom too.

    Advice to Management

Check your employees emails and computers every one in a while and you could be surprised what you could find. A lot of back stabing going on from people who want to move up in the company.

I have been working at Castle Metals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and good benefits. Overtime on occasion. Co-workers were great to work with. Supervisors did not micro-manage employees.

    Cons

Sadly A.M. Castle is shutting down the Franklin Park facility and moving to Wisconsin. Company is looking to phase out union facilities for cheaper labor.

    Pros

The benefit package is competitive. There is opportunity to move to different positions within the company. A few good people still employed.

    Cons

Change does not appear to be thought through. Male dominated company with little diversity. Leadership lacks creativity and does not ask enough questions.

    Advice to Management

Develop and execute a well communicated plan

I worked at Castle Metals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

free coffee. nice HQ offices decent HR dept well meaning employees, in desperate need of worthy management.

    Cons

Old CEO only knew how to manage expenses. Just kept cutting headcount every month. Didn't know how to grow the business or simplify the business. Never bothered to learn the business. New CEO too new to judge. Exec team is illiterate in their own functional areas. They don't know how things get done, and couldn't train/coach their employees if their life depended on it. So they blame the other departments for their own failures and think lots of meetings and management by spreadsheets is the answer. the blamers are now running the show. A lot of experienced people in all functional areas abandoning ship. Replaced old model of GMs with a dual model of Sales Directors (RCMs) and Branch Managers. adds even more cost, creates confusion, and dilutes accountability. revolving door of consultants. Management can't figure it out on their own?

    Advice to Management

Your fired the CEO. A good step. Now get rid of the CCO and COO.

I worked at Castle Metals (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a large well established company that has been around for many years. Many of the employees have been working there for over 20 years.

    Cons

It is a little old school in the way they do business. They could really use some young and creative talent, however they have a hard time connecting with these people or sufficiently incentiving them.
