I have been working at Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall a good company to work for. Busy systems, good contracts, opportunities to move around within the company and experience different systems and communities. There are many quality people, both on and off the road.

    Cons

Employer feedback to employees is marginalized, at least for now. The biggest reason for that? Across the board raises for all hands in the field over the past two years. This has caused a big morale hit for both line crews and supervisory staff alike. Benefits have been decreased. An example is health insurance; the basic coverage is too expensive for many employees to afford.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the pay and benefits issues. Listen to employees when they point out anything that is wrong, and take action to solve problems. The monthly meetings are a good thing but sometimes things put out by staff aren't considered.

Not a great place to work if you're a woman.

I have been working at Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc.

    Pros

Good 911 experience. Talented medics and EMTs. Lots of shift availability in multiple towns. Supervisors are for the most part fair.

    Cons

Employees are expendable. Multiple instances of women being harassed/threatened at work with management doing little to nothing. Personnel issues handled by district sups instead of HR. Management has zero leadership or management training they just tripped and fell into the position.
    Favoritism is rampant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's 2014. Act accordingly.

    Pros

Gained a lot of experience of area, lots of friends. Had some great times before the drastic changes in company.

    Cons

Management was poor. You were treated as a number and expected to work like a robot. I ended up being terminated without a clear expectation as to why. Attendance is overly enforced, but good luck finding the Boston division manager

They have a Good EMT & medic team and culture
Many opportunities to work overtime if a medic or EMT

    Cons

    - The upper management has used unethical practices
    - Human resources does not have the best interest of the employees in mind
    - Expensive medical benefits and they will not allow you to contribute to 401k for over a year after hire.

I have been working at Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good place for experience
    Large coverage area
    Set shifts
    Opportunities for overtime

    Cons

Too many required trainings. Difficult to get raise. No praise given for a job well done or an extremely busy shift. Very black and white. If you get injured and you're on a 24 you won't get paid for the entire shift as they break it into 3 8 hour shifts. No gym or gym membership but you are expected to be in shape to perform these duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide $$ towards gym membership of employee's choice or provide exercise equipment at all bases. Give bonuses if an employee does a good job or has an extremely busy shift.

    Pros

The camaraderie between partners and crews can be awesome, but it can also be tough to assimilate into if you're new or an outsider. You also get some of the best experience available from a private ambulance company in the greater Boston area

    Cons

They treat you as disposable-because you are. High turnover.
Pay is mediocre at best, especially considering what you do.
Very strict contract guidelines as far as response times, so supervisors are all over you.

I have been working at Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Plenty of shift options available. You can stick with transfer work if you want. You could just do 911 as well.

    Cons

Management and HR are not on your side. Communication is lackluster at best. Favoritism is there for shift scheduling. Mechanic is subpar.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your lines of communication. Listen to your EMT's and Medics. They often have better ideas than you could since they are in the mix EVERY day.
