I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

    Good support environment for consultants
Local consulting mostly - no travel outside of metroplex (mostly).
Management works with you on time off
    Technical challenges

    Cons

Bonus structure not rewarding; not dependent on employee effort.
    Pay raises are minuscule
    Little to no training
    No carry over of vacation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the bonus structure more traditional - to be fair to all.

    I worked at Catapult Systems

    Pros

This company is good for software developers who wish to build their Microsoft certifications and knowledge of Microsoft solutions. Catapult encourages and requires all consulting staff to continuously obtain new certifications. The company's management has good intentions and wants the employees to be happy working for Catapult.

    Cons

It is difficult to have a focus or direction in your career. As with many companies of this type, your job assignments depend on the projects sold.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on making sure that Microsoft knows who Catapult Systems is and more on making sure potential clients know.

    Catapult Systems - Agility

Current Employee - Senior Consultant in Houston, TX
Current Employee - Senior Consultant in Houston, TX

I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

As a consultant at Catapult you will have the opportunity to learn new technologies and work with the latest Microsoft products available. Catapult has one of the best infrastructure groups in the South Central region. You will get exposure to a wide vareity of industries and clients ranging from oil and gas, financial institutions, and health care.

    Cons

There are only two cons in working at Catapult the first is the lack of leadership (at least in the Houston office). Often you will find you are left to your own devices in solving problems or conflicts. The approach of the management team is to look the other way when problems do arise.

The other is Catapult's recently adopted project management methodology. It is one of process for process sake. The newly adopted methodology is not focused on improving solutions for clients but implemented to mitigate Catapult's "give backs" (non-bill hours, due to delivery failures). The process has stifled the agility of the organization which in turns limits creativity and passion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improved leadership that truly focuses on putting consultants first, and renewed focus on the "Agile" core value as we have lost our Agility.

I have been working at Catapult Systems full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Real employee empowerment, not micro-managed
    Growing rapidly
    Highly satisfied customer base
    Strong strategic vision and experience
    Stable financial position
    Visibility into Key Perfomance Indicators

    Cons

Typical challenges of a smaller company (limited resources, regional recognition better than national, lack of consistent proceedures, etc.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in internal systems and employee development

    Worst Place to Work

    I worked at Catapult Systems

    Pros

    Work schedules are very flexible

    Cons

    No career development opportunities
    Low morale among employees
    Very inconsistent operational processes
Lack of training and coaching processes for employees
    Poor bonus structure
    High turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management team should spend more time understanding and addressing employees' concerns so employees feel happy about their job at Catapult. It is really hard to provide constructive feedback because it is not taken with a positive attitude.

I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

    Very flexibile
    Salary is satisfactory
    Great people
    Good opportunity
    Professional environment
Communication is very good from top down
Still mostly a small company attitude

    Cons

Because the company is relatively small, career advancement into more managerial roles are relatively small as well. Any other drawbacks are more related to consulting as a whole, and not specific to Catapult

I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

    - Market standard pay and benefits.
    - Good general marketing image.
    - Good internal community network.

    Cons

    - Staff are marketed as experts in project technologies that they have limited or no experience in. This causes clients satisfaction issues as deadlines are not met as promised; and the products are not delivered as requested.

    - Yearly pay increases are based on subjective peer reviews, not quantifiable results.
    - On average, I have worked 70 hours per week since joining.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put client and employee satisfaction higher on the corporate priority list

Great Training Grown, but hard to make it a long term career

    Current Employee - Senior Consultant
    Current Employee - Senior Consultant

I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

Get to work with highly motivated and intelligent people. The mid-level managers do their best to staff you on challenging projects but not outside of your capabilities. Small company feel, but Enterprise type projects.

    Cons

Very hard to move up within the organization because there really is no "up." Company is too small so there are very few management positions. "Managing Consultants" are just glorified project managers. CEO seems to take good employees for granted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of compensating your talented workers. Consultants are the ones interfacing every single day with the customer and have the ability to recommend many solutions. Management needs to provide greater incentive for consultants to bring in more business.

Good learning experience. There is a ceiling as to how far a technical person can go.

Current Employee - Senior Lead Consultant

I have been working at Catapult Systems

    Pros

Good attitude toward people, good exposure to technologies

    Cons

    Opportunities for advancement are limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on incentives for utilization before 100%. Also, top level management seems disconnected to the line worker, and focused on areas that are not relevant to technical people.
