Tier II Support / Network Monitoring

Network Monitoring Systems Administrator (Current Employee)
    Alexandria, VA

ProsSmall Company that treats you like family. Relaxing interview, was able to negotiate pay rate.

ConsContracted out, only interface with a few other Catapult employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementA little more interaction with your employees and updates so they can be sure they are on track for a good annual evaluation and pay increase.

    Solid company.

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Bethesda, MD

ProsKnowledgeable and very approachable management. Strong process-based methodology of running contracts and operations. Good pay & benefits. They do what they can to retain employees, even at contract's end.

ConsLike most contractors, the company struggles to hold onto employees at end of contract. Also, they outsource their recruiting to a company based in CA. Business Development could use a boost.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith government contracts getting the way they are and incumbents protesting awards pretty much on a de facto basis, it's probably time for Catapult (and other small to medium sized government contractors) to think of ways to diversify their revenue sources. I am impressed by some other small businesses that are dabbling in cloud based solutions and apps that can be a huge hit not only to government but to commercial customers alike. It would be good to see Catapult commit a portion of its talent to open new potential business lines in this fashion.

WOW, I haven't worked for a company that gave out movie tickets on birthdays!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEasy to contact! they call you back! They have knowledgeable people! They have a few get together parties each year!

ConsNot sure, in 5 years with them I can't recall a snag or snafu?

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what your doing! Maybe put up an alumni site for us former peoples.

Good company to work for. Would not hesitate to work for them again.

    Service Desk Analyst (Former Employee)
    Chambersburg, PA

ProsLearned a great deal of information. Company supported continuing education and personal growth. Pushed employees to constantly be in the process of studying for a new exam during any down-time.

ConsI never got to meet any of the people in Bethesda. The contract I was on was in a different state. The new location in Chambersburg did not have ergonomic workstations.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep supporting the employees with education incentives.

You are a worker bee to make money for the executives. Nothing more.

    Support Manager (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsThe health insurance benefits were decent.

ConsSenior management was aloof and didn't communicate with any of the lower level staff.
    Salary levels are below market
    Disorganization and lack of vision
Lack of employee development (education reimbursement was often denied because of it not being related to the specific job title)
    Constant threat of termination

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with employees and make them feel like they are part something more than just their job. Treat people with respect and as a peer, and not like an expendable asset.

Disorgaized comany struggling to compete with the Big Dogs

    Management Consultant (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsCoworkers are easy to get along with; the C-suite is very accessible to employees.

ConsNo growth opportunities; salaries not at industry standards; very little experience outside of direct technology consulting -- this is not a management consulting firm.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a proposals department that will shift the business development work off of the day-to-day management consultant teams.

Professional and invested in their workforce

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Arlington, VA

ProsCatapult does a good job taking care of their employees. The benefits are very good; they have (at the time of writing this) 401k matching and good health plans to pick from. They are mainly involved in contracting so mobility is good as long as you have the skills. They have a solid HR department that is responsive and easy to work with. Upper management seems to have their heads on straight, and the PMs I've dealt with have been of a very high caliber. Catapult attracts good people.

ConsHonestly, none that aren't just part of the government contracting world. They're a solid company to work for. They recently outsourced their IT services which isn't great, but it's understandable. Service is still good.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on your employees. Enable them to flourish and grow and they will work hard for you so you can buy a bigger beach house next year.
