    Pros

Support from management (when everything was going well); great staff; flexibility in managing your task; travel

    Cons

When mistakes occur, upper management blames mid-managers even though they contributed to the problem. Salaries started off well, but declined over the period of the contract. This meant that we could not buy the right talent for the more complicated work which started off in the 3rd and 4th years of the 5-year contract

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for your involvement in problems; don't skimp on the talent

    Pros

Very few to mention. Some of the employees are nice!

    Cons

Don't know where to start about my proposal department or VP. Department have been hiring friends for proposal writing and this is very unprofessional place to work. Lots of companies in the same group are merging/consolidating and the good staff has already left. The company would make you work for insane hours of 14-18 hours straight on proposals without providing proper facilities (sometimes I wonder if this could be legal). Senior management don't own up to their mistakes and I see lot of junior staff let go because of their own issues. I am constantly looking for another job and only here till I find a new one. No hope for the company. Benefits are also very poor.

    Advice to Management

Give benefits to staff and start giving them the respect that you expect in return. Control on the verbal abuses!!

    Pros

Sometime work is flexible. Nothing else

    Cons

Bad work environment and high turn-over rate in BD and proposal department. Senior management and proposal department is very disorganized. No reward or appreciation and work environment is stale. No development of employees and company is very top-heavy.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people and hire talented people.

    Pros

Some bright people in lower levels

    Cons

Communication from the top down is miserable. Pay is miserable. And the location is a haul for many people in the Alexandria area but that is inconsequential to management. Promises are made when you walk in the door but are mysteriously forgotten shortly thereafter

    Advice to Management

Sell it to the highest bidder and clean house

    Pros

Small Company that treats you like family. Relaxing interview, was able to negotiate pay rate.

    Cons

Contracted out, only interface with a few other Catapult employees.

    Advice to Management

A little more interaction with your employees and updates so they can be sure they are on track for a good annual evaluation and pay increase.

    Pros

Knowledgeable and very approachable management. Strong process-based methodology of running contracts and operations. Good pay & benefits. They do what they can to retain employees, even at contract's end.

    Cons

Like most contractors, the company struggles to hold onto employees at end of contract. Also, they outsource their recruiting to a company based in CA. Business Development could use a boost.

    Advice to Management

With government contracts getting the way they are and incumbents protesting awards pretty much on a de facto basis, it's probably time for Catapult (and other small to medium sized government contractors) to think of ways to diversify their revenue sources. I am impressed by some other small businesses that are dabbling in cloud based solutions and apps that can be a huge hit not only to government but to commercial customers alike. It would be good to see Catapult commit a portion of its talent to open new potential business lines in this fashion.
