CAT is great

Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee)
Decatur, IL

I have been working at Caterpillar

ProsGreat job ownership, decent pay, good benefits, strong growth, world leader, great brand name, great vision, definitely thinking ahead of other US based companies towards future survival and growth.
Since its inception over 80 years ago, Caterpillar has grown to be the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines. In partnership with our worldwide dealer network, we drive positive and sustainable change on every continent. We deliver products, services and technologies in three principal lines of business: Machinery, Engines and Financial Products. As a global, diverse technology leader, Cat commits to excellence in all that we do. We are proud to be a leader in building the world's infrastructure, and in enabling progress for millions of people around the globe

Consrapid globalization needed, need to monitor promotions (inequality in promotions), lack of commitment in factory and other areas, need to get rid of union and all employees need to work towards company common goals. No onsote fitness club, lack of diversity in 401K funds, needs a high level review with existing supply base and as needed shift to LCC, need to improve relations with supply base. Several suppliers are not being competetive with market place and hindering CAT profit, very soon hopefully they need to realize or they will out of business, need atleast 3 suppliers for each and every component.

Caterpillar is a great place to work!

Embedded Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Peoria, IL

I have been working at Caterpillar

ProsProud of the products we create, it's very fulfilling to work at a company respected worldwide.

ConsCrappy location. Peoria, IL is not the best place to live, lots of crime and small town mentality. Cat uses this to pay lower than average salaries due to no competition in the area.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall, keep up the good work! While not everything about the company is great, I have full confidence in senior management to keep us on track and in business

ProsBig Company with brand recognition.

ConsClueless about technology as applied to meeting their customers needs. They are a Six Sigma company. Enough said.
