I have been working at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn & Queens

    Pros

Working with dedicated students who genuinely want to apply themselves and learn.

    Cons

Queens site Educstion services manager has no background in Educstion or teaching so allows the ESL program to be run by a Filipino with a background in Agronomy and with very poor pronunciation, worse spelling and no teacher wulifications whatsoever. Queens site co-ordinator favors her own religion and pushed Catholic students out. She is sneaky, dishonest and always has her hand in the till.
Human Resources are lazy, arrogant and extremely unprofessional.
This place is riddled with corruption, nepotism, stealing staff and bullying and ostracizing the very employees who are actually qualified and know and love their job. It makes me want to renounce my Catholic faith.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people with honesty and integrity and if their role is to supervise ESL programs they should be able to speak English.
Get rid of people who do not value the ethics inherent in Catholic teachings and want to direct all funding to non-Catholics who have no intention of using English to improve their work opportunities because they refuse to work!

    Pros

Steady income, can manage your own time through the day, one sick day given per month, vacation accrual is fast, somewhat flexible if you want to pursue school

    Cons

Micromanage to the tee, management favors people, if they don't like you then you're gone, you're doing a job ten people, over worked, pay is not worth the stress.

I worked at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn & Queens full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Not sure there were too many, I liked the school I was placed in. The CEO did give the staff a few extra holidays for people working through hurricane sandy.

    Cons

Disorganized, hierarchical thinking; managers do not listen to staff who work for them. Organization does not care about their employees, The message is - "get the job done, do whatever we tell you". High turnover and the administration doesn't seem to question why.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Poor communication among management. Managers juggle too much, are stressed out and need more training in how to really be leaders. They care more about numbers than their staff and the under-served populations they are trying to help.
