I have been working at Catlin Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Well compensated and fantastic benefits. Lots natural growth is leading to increased opportunities. Good time to begin with Catlin because the potential for growth is enormous. Employees tend to be nice individuals and hard workers. Catlin has a set of values that it appears to actual follow and makes a point of informing its employees about what it is doing.

    Cons

Current employees and management are very entrenched and are lacking of new/young blood.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in younger employees who can be brought up within the company, don't just hire older established employees.

I have been working at Catlin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay and benefits are FIRST RATE. Lots of learning opportunity here!

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Supervisors are hired without proper background experience and will chase business away because they don't know what they're doing. VERY hard to follow a leader who you are not able to respect because they lack proper knowledge and management skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation here is amazing - cannot be beat! Office culture is difficult to manage and cultivate when supervisors are living "off location" from their staff. This doesn't give a manager the opportunity to see the day to day grind of their staff or observe work ethic of their subordinates. Subordinates should be able to anonymously review their supervisors as often as supervisors review subordinates.

I have been working at Catlin Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Feel of small entrepreneurial Company despite being a market leader
    Work flexibility
    Amazing global franchise

    Cons

Senior Managers hold themselves in very high regard and sometimes seek ways to elevate themselves even further creating an insider mentality, particular with information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat your leadership role as a reason to become complacent about your skills and experiences. The managers we have are not all equipped to lead the size Company we are becoming. But they are good smart professionals who will excel if they focus on their own development needs.

I have been working at Catlin Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company attracts talented people and the results reflect that. If you are already at a high level position, it is a great place to work.

    Cons

Senior management lives within its own little bubble. Those with friends in high places fail their way up. For those with less experience, opportunities for growth are very limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some different points of view to the US management team. Working at XL should not be a prerequisite.

I worked at Catlin Group as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent location! Great culture, excellent benefits, very smartpeople, very diverse, great experience.

People are friendly and helpful (they really believe in teamwork).

Employees are generally happy and actually care for the company's well being.

There are a lot of older employees here who have already established their careers. You can learn a lot from them.

    Cons

The company is still growing so at times you might feel over-worked and a little stressed. They need to hire more people to spread out the workload.

Company with nice corporate culture but very little opportunity for career growth

I worked at Catlin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good work-life balance
    Nice corporate culture
    Good benefits

    Cons

Very small salary increases that do not keep up with the market. Not a good place to work if you are looking to grow and advance your career. As others have mentioned this is a better place for highly experienced professionals who are looking to settle down. Salary increases don't keep up with the market, 2-3% salary increases are the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in technology, make salary increases competitive with the market to prevent an exodus of talent. Consider cost of living increases plus merit increases to retain the best and brightest.

I have been working at Catlin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The Atlanta office is fantastic. The views of the city from the high-rise building with no walls on the outside are great. The people at the company are all friendly and easy to work with.

    Cons

Upper management is not quite used to IT and they have some odd constraints on software developers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall, great job. Let the IT department have more influence over the company's Information Technology.
