  1.

    Great internship

I worked at Causes as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I never really felt like an intern. I was treated on the same level as an employee, and felt like an employee. Some people were surprised to later learn I was an intern. The job was full of diverse challenges, and I had the ability to shape and direct a lot of my own activity. Great company culture: open, friendly. I spent a lot of time hanging out after work with people I liked.

    Cons

The office got bigger and bigger, and with that, there became more rigidity in the company direction, and more hierarchy. Occasionally people got fired, and it was handled awkwardly and uncomfortably. As an intern, I was not allowed to work overtime, but I saw how little work-life balance others in the company had. In the end I decided the fast-paced, stressful setting wasn't for me.

Great coworkers, terrible leadership, no competition for funding leaves product without market fit

    Pros

Coworkers were amazing. Loved pretty much all of them.

    Cons

Low Salary. Immature Leadership. Sean Parker's injection of cash into a company that has no market.

I have been working at Causes full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Competitive salary, great benefits, amazing team and everyone's nice. Pair programming, communication, a modern stack, and other engineering tenets were great. Very conscious of work-life balance, everyone leaves at 6pm.

    Cons

Serious doubts about senior management, product doesn't make sense in current iteration. Not sure some of the VPs belong in their position, and the CEO is very detached from the product and processes in place.

    Pros

Causes has a very smart team with diverse talents. The tech stack is relatively up-to-date. Compensation and perks are competitive.

    Cons

Still hasn't found product/market fit after nearly seven years. Relatively high staff turnover. Product itself still needs a lot of work.

    * Great team. I learn something new every day and can always go to my teammates for help.
    * Real impact. It may be cliché but it's fun to be able to actually impact the product in a substantive way, every day.

    Cons

    * Long-term future of the company is unclear. (But that's pretty normal for startups)

Decent place to work, with some shortcomings.

I have been working at Causes

    Pros

People were nice and generally pretty smart. The code that was written was following good practices. The mission of the company is generally a good one.

    Cons

A few strange practices - people argued against adding comments to my code, for example. Company seems to be spinning its wheels.

    No opinion of CEO
