Advice to Senior Management
Things have changed since Paetec acquired Cavalier, not the same caring culture
Pros
They had a good price package with high quality equipment. Saved a lot of businesses money. Had great tech support and install group.
Cons
Cavalier didn't upgrade there network. In places it was 11 or so years old and couldn't give the data speeds of other CLECs. Company was sold to PAETECH. They laid off a lot of employees. Leaving a trail of unemployment behind.
Advice to Senior Management
To the new management. Please enjoy your fiber backbone... I hope you can sleep at night... You know , not really.......
Pros
Laid back enviroment and helpul humna resource staffs.
Cons
Minimal to No opportunities for career growth!
Advice to Senior Management
Can train employees on more field than keeping them stuck one role. Offer work based upon the education and experience of the emplyee.
Pros
The location is great for those who live near the headquarters
Cons
CLECs have dismal future prospects
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on commercial/gov and remove Ed Meyercord
Pros
Training is good, product portfolio is very good. Their pricing is good too.
Cons
No one has heard of them, upper-level products hard to sell because businesses do not trust them since they have never heard of them before.
Advice to Senior Management
Do some PR.
Pros
Co-workers at Cavalier try hard to assist each other when given the opportunity, but are also encouraged by management not too.
Cons
The senior managment at Cavalier are some of the worse in the industry. They believe that threats are the only way to accomplish the goals that they wish to see completed. The old idea of carrot and the stick does not apply here, only the stick. They do not wish to hear any ideas that might conflict with thiers. They encourage back stabbing and passing the blame. No rewards and below standards pay. Layed off years ago and glad of it.
Advice to Senior Management
Sell the company to some group who will can all managment, Director and above and start running it like a Telephone company instead of some backwoods type operation.
Pros
-local management team is competent, but held back by senior management
-sales support team and sales engineering team are great
Cons
-product line outdated
-prices not competitive compared to competition
-senior management is unconcerned about employees, you are a number to them
-AE's are brought in, burned out, and sent out
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees as an integral part of your success.
Pros
The positions I worked were not too hard to figure out once I got all the information needed. For two out of the four positions I worked management was hands off and let us do our job.
Cons
The pay is not comparable and it is not easy to get a pay increase even when going from a position that should be getting half the pay of your new position. You will most likely get the least amount they can get away with and the only way to get out of that rut it to have a manager who is willing to try to bully HR into giving you more money because you deserve it!
There also was no communication of what was going on with the company, just b.s. that everything was going great... everything was always great... even with the CEO left without notice... everything was great.... even when there were layoffs... everything is great.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate more with your employees and be willing to pay a fair salary for the good work they do otherwise you will lose the good ones.
Pros
A job here is better than no job. Cavalier's strategy is to be the cheapest. Customers get what they pay for.
Cons
I had a sales job here. I began selling and then realized that Cavalier cannot install correctly about 50% of the items I had sold. They fired most of their customer service department in early 2008. So guess who the angry customers call when their business telephone, internet and email isn't working? You got it. The sales guy. The job became a nightmare because even if you tried to help a customer who you had sold to, no-one at the company would take ownership and solve the problem. I left the company because I wasn't willing to sell products which I knew chances were would cause huge problems for the customers business.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay for a customer service department. Redesign the process so someone has responsibility for processing orders
