Its all (good) work and no nonsense "beating around bushes and meetings"

Senior Hardware Engineer (Current Employee) Marlborough, MA

ProsGreat team members - many are from the Alpha design team from DEC. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Very open to new ideas and never hesitate to try.
Everyone is interested in getting things done and not trying to pass the blame when things go wrong.

ConsGrade designation structure could be better.
    401k matching needs to improve.
Only 10 vacation days (which is a big minus).

Advice to Senior ManagementYou cant find people unless you do something about vacations.

    The Best and Worst Job

Hardware Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsPays really well. Near perfect autonomy. Minimal corporate BS. In fact, no non-technical management that I've run across. Low expectations. Solid, steady growth (excluding the last two quarters, but I think we'll be back to growth next quarter). The Marlborough office employs a good share of geniuses.

ConsThe best of our growth is probably done. The flip side to only technical management (which is a plus on balance) is that your boss may not be as good at bossing as he used to be at engineering. This is the Peter Principle in action. I haven't been promoted nor has anyone above me or next to me. There has never been a re-org. It seems the power structure is set in stone. IMHO some of the recent acquisitions are nutty. Parties are terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have a solid company. Focus on core products and stop buying random things. Let people change hats once in a while so they can feel like they're on a career path. Spend a little more on team building. Your parties are terrible.

Very good, Coworkers are very helpful and knowledgeable

Hardware Engineer (Current Employee) Marlborough, MA

ProsFlexible work hours, can work from home or take time to run errands etc.
You are able to make a difference and see it affect products from the start. Interesting and challenging work.
    Coworkers are friendly and helpful.
    Pizza for lunch every Wed.

ConsHealth benefits are o.k but not great. 401k matching could be better. A lot of pressure to make deadlines.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is very helpful and understanding with regards to family issues and other errands or emergencies that come up. A better structure for job titles etc would be nice.

Not a great place to work

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsYou might get to work in the latest technology, but you have to be very lucky.

ConsHR is the worst I have seen anywhere.
No proper facilities for the employees.
Internal Project transfer is unheard off in the company, no proper mechanism, HR function is as good as not present.
People from good HR practice companies should stay away.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the India center on par with rest of the world.

    Fantastic company

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Hyderābād (India)

Pros- Great minds at work and good work culture
    - Good hands-on experience in newer technologies
    - You will get recognition from VP or CEO if you do the work right. So you know how much the senior management look after the engineering.
    - Your career growth will definitely skyrocket

Cons- HR and Admin people. They just don't want to work or rather don't know how to do work. Finance team is little better (I want to get my salary :)).
    - Sometimes Engineering guys do work of a HR, Admin and Finance instead. I don't like this.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work and look after your engineering teams

    Great Internship Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsFriendly, relaxed environment
Smaller company means getting to know people more
    Company events get people involved
    Great learning experience

ConsI was offered a full time job after my internship, and as much as I wanted to stay there to work, I had to decline because the salary I was offered was not competitive enough.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
